Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

ADHD isn't just about kids bouncing around the walls. That is how big pharma market it because it sells, but that is not how real psychologists view it. You can have ADHD and be well behaved and perform well. I have adult friends with ADHD who are incredibly successful, but their attention jumps ab...

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

Most people have zero awareness of their unconscious biases. That means they don't have any control of them. Sure thing about unconscious biases but even then people can try to be aware of such biases. Most people have zero control over racing thoughts, anxiety, depression and a whole other aspects...

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

If people weren't in control of their own thoughts all kinds of counseling would be rendered useless. Meditation would be a pointless endeavor. An addict would always be an addict. There would be no reform.

Apparently the neuroscience fans in this thread know some things. :?

I'm all for science but people need to draw the line when science fans think they can leave skid marks on philosophy and spirituality. Absolutely unacceptable.

I'm so epic, I can get a better footlong sandwich in five minutes from Subway for $6 - exercising my free will of course. Over three million listens to that terrible backing track though. Eww.

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

Being spiritual doesn't have to mean rejecting science, neurology or psychology. And being philosophical certainly doesn't mean denial of scientific function. At the end of the day the end goal is the same - to understand the nature of reality and conscious experience. Sure. No rejections or denial...

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

I think you're severely missing the point. I get your point but I'm just too spiritual and philosophical to embrace a squared mentality of scientific function. Looking at things so literally, for me at least, I think is pretty detrimental to my well-being. You're the guy who believes art is anythin...

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

The problem being encountered right now is that we just don't have a framework to integrate the low level biology with the high level social behaviours. I agree. I'd kick it Bill Nye instead of Robert Sapolsky any day of the week. Sapolsky is liable to make me act out on some psychopathic tendencie...

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

I picked a video about free will to start the discussion. You picked a video which received a thumbs down from me due to the fact that it was sensational, unconcise, social media clickbait. We all know of ways that we are literally not in control of our brains but the very video you c...

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

Suppose you are a bit hungry, and a bit sleepy. You could go to the kitchen and get a snack. Or you could relax in an easy chair and take a nap. Or you might ignore both impulses and do something else entirely, like watch a few YouTube videos. Actually, you just realized you can't do any of those t...

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

It's not a matter of being egotistical, and the subject isn't about whether you comform to societal standards, it's simply that our conscious mind isn't half as in control as it thinks it is most of the time. You're blurring the line between conscious and subconscious! Of course I get an erection w...

Re: Are you in control of your own thoughts, actions and decisions?

The problem with this is that people who oppose this train of thought will be written off as egotistical which actually plays into conforming to this. I won't bother going into my own examples of how I exercise free will to defy societal standards every day and they can be written off as little vari...

Re: Timbaland vs Swizz Beatz beat battle, ...

I've always been a fan of Timbo but these cats are playing from two separate fields in my opinion. Timbo's production is deep, soulful and groovy while Swiss is more hype and going hard. I think this is apples and oranges for those of us who are more hip-hop acclimated but I enjoy both as the synerg...

The D16 devices are great and have been covering my needs. I pull up the TMC Distort Chain specifically for ring modulation which I tend to do a lot.

I've been wondering about tape for a while too but J37 is only $29 today so I'll probably just take that plunge.

Congratulations on winning a statistical coin flip! :D It's not that iffy, but it does take work. :) Ok, realistically, I think the actual divorce rate is around 45% but that might as well be a coin flip. It reminds me of a common scenario in the card game of poker. Getting it all in with AK (the t...

Re: Hello???

Marriage is great. As long as both parties are kind, considerate, willing to compromise and halfway decent listeners, it is great to always have a best friend around, no matter what. I've been at it for 27 years. Although admittedly, my wife has had to take up the slack in many instances. Fortunate...
