Re: MClass Compressor vs Rack Extension Compressors
The Fairchild was the first compressors I'm familiar with that has these qualities, which the Manley "Vari-Mu" was loosely based upon. http://www.manley.com/products/view/mslchp This is in addition to the "tube" sound they both embody. The Moo is totally clean. No tube emulation. Although I am a hu...

Re: Vocalign VST
I was checking out this VST called Vocalign which does as it claims to align vocals. Is there anything in Reason that does the same being this program only comes in VST3 format or Logic’s AU format? There is nothing in Reason that does what VocAlign can do, and little need for it unless you replace...

Re: Waves SSL G-Master Buss Compressor
How does the Waves SSL G-Master Buss compare to the native Reason SSL Bus Comp? It's only $29 (for another hour) but I don't want to buy something I don't need. Anyone using it? While none of these exactly re-create the original, both are recognizable as coming from the same 'family'. In other word...

Re: MClass Compressor vs Rack Extension Compressors
There can be many more differences than just attack/release times in my experience, including the "soft knee" function you mentioned (which is often designed differently for each manufacturer). "Mu" compressors such as the Moo by McDSP ALSO have a different ratio response than other compressors, wh...

Indeed - I was just comparing downward compressors - you add upwards and expansion possibilities and multiply these differences and things get even crazier!

Re: What's the weirdest/best tricks you've learned over the years of making music?
ReAmp: It's handy to have a re-amp around for not only running "direct-recorded" guitars through real amps/pedals, but also adding amps and pedals to your external FX loops for ANY instruments. Similarly (and you don't need a ReAmp for this): If you have a PA speaker (such as a Mackie SRM series) yo...

Re: What's the weirdest/best tricks you've learned over the years of making music?
For getting sustain on guitars recorded in the control room, run the guitar through a monitor. Use the left or right channel of the mains if there is no spare, panning everything else to the other speaker. Then touch the headstock of the guitar to the speaker cabinet and crank it up. Unless you are ...

Re: Need help recreating anlogue kick technique from video
BTW, just been messing around and found Europa is even better at this than Thor, mainly because you have full control over the exponential shape of the envelopes (even though you can't control the shape from a Combinator). May try to build an Europa version of the Thor Combinator tomorrow if I have ...

Re: Need help recreating anlogue kick technique from video
Re: using Thor… You can easily use Thor for most of this since a lot of the wiring is already done for you. In fact, the ONLY thing I've done with Thor is to create more exponential (snappy) envelops which work better for drums, and patched the Mod Env to control pitch. The rest is all built into T...

Re: How is the comparesion between Line6 Amp and Softune Amp??
I don't care for the Line6 or the Softube amps very much. The Softube sounds less artificial to my ears, but it's far less versatile. I usually use Kuassa's amps and effects. Amplifikation Creme is my favorite, and it gets a lot of use from me alongside their distortion and modulation effects. Ther...

Oh yea, you can't use Reason's excellent audio quantization feature on multiple drum tracks either, another loss for Reason users IMO.

Re: What's the weirdest/best tricks you've learned over the years of making music?
There have been so many over the years, most which are now easily accomplished by plugins (but still, the original techniques can give unique results). One of the first things I did when I finally got access to a studio in the early 80s was to run each drum through a plate reverb, gate it, and recor...

How To Achieve This Quality Of Low End?
The trick is not making it sound ‘distorted’ in any way, but adding sustain and definition by way of saturation. Sent from some crappy device using Tapatalk The sustain is achieved by compression? Saturation. It’s not often understood by all engineers, but almost every guitar player knows that what...

Re: How To Achieve This Quality Of Low End?
Have you tried using a bass amp simulator? Its usually my go-to if i need the upper bass harmonics to stand out. I'm trying some set ups but what Selig said is true, when you have a good sample bass the sound is already there. I think i'm over complicating things. But i'm still experiment some stuf...

Re: How To Achieve This Quality Of Low End?
Thanks for the replies. The ScarBee bass sounds great but i'm using reason 8 - no vst. I've notice that some bass synths looks good at first but when you check the low part it's just a hollow undefined sound. I'll focus on the low to get the right definition because if this is not right the rest wo...

Re: How To Achieve This Quality Of Low End?
There isn‘t one thing that makes these sound good. First of all the compositions and arrangements leave room for the bass to breathe. Then you have excellent bass players <- this is the most important thing for the sound. They play the songs with the right feel, with the right groove etc. etc. When...

Re: Studio Monitors De-Emphasis Question
From what I can tell, de-emphasis is for the SPDIF input only, and you would only hear any effects of this if using that input. And the results would be static, not turning on/off AFAIK.

Re: How to use aux bus as a send?
Another +1 for giving send effects their own proper mix channels. So handy for a variety of reasons. And as I mentioned in another thread recently, there are (at least) two things to look out for. One is that there is no way to hear the FX returns when you solo a channel without having to ALSO solo...
