Re: Sonar is free.
I've been a Sonar user for years and it's been my main DAW for quite some time. When Gibson killed Cakewalk I was gutted. Now Bandlab have moved in I'm watching and waiting a while before I jump in. My latest (and last) version of Splat will continue to work for now.

Also, BandLab CEO confirms no charge for SONAR cross-grades as result of acquisition. Also, former Cakewalk CTO and Senior Software Engineer hired: https://www.soundonsound.com/news/cakewalk-sonar-lives As a long time Sonar user I have hope that the platform will continue........ Re: Reasoner PSA: backup your hard drive/SSD/whatever - NOW!
I make the effort to back up everything every month to a external HDD. This is stored at my mother in law's house and I just swap between the few I have.
I also back up my music stuff every few days to another external HDD..........does that make me obsessive?

Re: Do you read the ReasonTalk articles?
Just for the record, I voted "sometimes". To clarify that I'll say. If a headline grabs me I'll start reading but I don't often finish. Short attention span or something...... Just finding the time for music is hard enough without reading about it :D Anyhoos, you guys are doing a great job so keep o...

Re: Appreciation for Reason licensing system
 I've only ever used 2 DAWs, Sonar (Cakewalk RIP) and Reason. I can happily say I've never had a problem with either, whether reinstalling on an existing system or installing on a brand new one. At this point my aging kickass PC is approaching 5 yrs old, while still going strong I'll be r...

The Chameleons
One of, if not my fave band of all time! First heard them on the John Peel Show on Radio 1 in the UK a long...........long time ago. I never got to see them when I was younger but out of the blue they play gigs in Oz. I got to see the first gig at the Woolly Mammoth in Brisbane on the 11th of Jan 18...

Re: Trying to find parent refill of a conbi patch used in an old song
For anyone interested...... I worked it out. The parent folder was showing as "Combinators" so I searched for that. As you will imagine there were quite a few folders that showed up and at first I thought I'm not going thru all that lot but then I realised I could match the date and that did the tri...

Re: Trying to find parent refill of a conbi patch used in an old song
perhaps u self contained the sample when saving... have not seen that patch yet... but have not seen as many as I need to see..... Maybe. It was almost 10 years ago that I wrote the original track. Funny thing is I remember when I found the patch as it was perfectly suited for what I was writing at...

Trying to find parent refill of a conbi patch used in an old song
The patch is called Gaiden Rhythm. Reason finds the patch but doesn't show the parent refill which is fine because I can use the patch, but I'd like to know where it came from. Aside from going through every refill I have in the hope I'll find it does anyone know of a way?

Re: Drone notes
Because I love playing over drone notes I created a combinator with oscilateing synth drones emulating Bag pipe and tamboura sounds because I love indian and Celtic music's use of drone. They are set up to interweave in the mixer at random time interval with fader controls going up and down in a 32...

Re: Chorus / Flanger
One cool way to get an old school stereo effect (ala the original Boss CE-1, which I still love) is to start with a mono track, create a parallel track and put the CF-101 on the parallel track in send mode. Then pan the original and the parallel channel to opposite sides of the mix, and you get a n...

Re: Spam from PH
I always assumed Reason was mainly a funny response to Logic. ReAlizer and Reaktor are both trying too hard, and would sound dated by now. They're both a bit MySpace. Reason is a timeless name. The funny thing is (and I may be wrong here) that I think nobody in the team ever made the connection to ...

Re: Cakwalk VSTs - GUI Does Not Open
Thought I'd resurrect this thread. Now that Gibson have killed Cakewalk :puf_unhappy: I've been playing around, working out which vsts will work in Reason but neither Rapture or Dimension Pro will open yet Rapture Pro (Rapture Pro is the combined version of the 2 synths) does. Z3ta+ won't open but Z...

Re: R.I.P. Cakewalk.
R.I.P indeed. Splat has been my main DAW for a while now and I'll continue to use it until I no longer can. Sad! :puf_unhappy: I jumped to Cubase - it just feels dirty using an unsupported product! I was getting itchy feet anyway (for reasons that aren't that clear to me!). Have to say that Sonar h...

Re: When is it time to end a track?
You can tweak and redo this and that forever and you'll still never be completely happy. I think it comes down to perfectionism and also a little bit of OCD (or at least in my case it does). I strive to create the perfect song, mix and master but I'm no pro. While I've learned a shipload of skills a...

Re: POLL: How much did you spend on VST/RE/Reason this Black Friday Week/Weekend 2017??
I spent $39 + the 30 that Props very generously gave me as a voucher for upgrading to 10. I'm not a fan of the RE set up but I bought Parsec which I must say is very impressive.
