Re: [J-Fusion] Tarmac Left Bend【ターマック、左折】

The instrumental portion of the song sounds great. I like how warm yet tight everything sounds. The vocals throw things off. There's a lot of processing going on to the point where I had to jump back and relisten because I thought I had a weak internet connection that made everything sound choppy. O...

Re: (Crusty Instrumental) Obduction

Nicely done! And I feel your pain regarding the long list of date names in your project folder. Sometimes I’ll just stare blankly at the file names, and finally just give up and open the song to find like four bars of some lame chord progression. Those four bars always sounded so much better ...

Re: Spring sale has started bargains galore (March 2023)

Interesting that this is replacing May Madness. I wouldn't have expected that but was also surprised to see such a big sale right before the usual extravaganza. There are some decent sales here that have me trialing a few REs. Red Rock's Palette Colorizer is cheaper than I've ever seen. The trial is...

I listened to your song, Youtube'd the original and then listened to yours again... what a trip lol. You transformed that little melodic line into such a haunting song (in a good way). There should be a Twilight Zone episode about computers taking over the world and your song playing in the backgrou...

Re: (Crusty Instrumental) Obduction

Strangers! Long time no see. I listened to this with interest, I'm not super big into heavy guitars but it sounds great and in particular I liked the part that starts at 0:58 where the time signature (or smth, I'm terrible with music theory I must confide) changes into an irregular loop. I still li...

Re: [RnB / Philly Soul] Sidewalk Cadence

Really nice work with this one. The music really fits the story you laid out. .I really like the breakup to the beat from 1:30 onward which then rolls into the transition of the cafe again. The only element that was a little distracting was the phased guitar-ish instrument. It's a little in your fac...

Re: [Atmosphere] Second Attempt - i promise its good

I'm listening on a laptop for the time being. This one is more atmospheric than the other for sure. I haven't gotten through the whole thing yet. I'm skipping around since it's pretty long. It's pretty interesting to know this is all generative. There's some cool things going on that you could build...

fantastic work, strangers. it's powerful, gritty and a bit minimalistic in its progression. even i as non-metal-head enjoyed this. That's cool to hear this had some appeal even for someone that's not into metal. We'll see if I have some others up my sleeve that you'll also like. Nice tune. :puf_smi...

Very nice work meshing two worlds together. This track was brutal in the right ways. I'll have to listen through more of your stuff. You've gained a follower.

Re: (Prodigy influenced) - Mythology

Those squelchy bass lines are too good. I'm assuming the flute-like sound around 1:15 was ChamberTron? The sound instantly stood out. I got a kick out of that especially since I've never been able to find a use for the RE.

Re: (Crusty Instrumental) Obduction

Sounds great to me, the guitars are tight and powerful, the rythmic part is hitting hard on that nasty time signature and the electronic inserts are glued with the guitars, which is something I always found hard to do in metal. Well done indeed. Thanks Quarmat. I used to have a lot of trouble blend...

Re: [atmosphere] a walk in the dark

I like the idea and the effort but do agree with Rising Night Wave that it kind of misses the mark. The sounds are very dry, deliberate and in your face. You've already got some interesting sounds. Mangling them a bit and giving them space will get you more in the atmospheric realm.

Re: BASSGRID's Terminal Master Effect - need some info

A few things I'd recommend learning about that can carry you a long way... 1. Gain staging 2. EQ 3. Compression 4. Limiter Having a basic grasp of the above can get you very far. Everything else is icing on the cake. Don't let it intimidate you. You'll be happier knowing how to dial something in and...

Re: BASSGRID's Terminal Master Effect - need some info

Unfortunately, it's really source dependent. There's lots of resources available online if you search by instrument or task you're trying to accomplish. Just be prepared to find a lot of fluff and regurgitated info and "tricks" that aren't rules. There's some things that are more useful than others ...

Re: BASSGRID's Terminal Master Effect - need some info

okey, strangers, thank you. I fired up Reason to check out the RE. It's very light on presets. There are five folders: 2 folders for "creative effects" with 25 presets in total between the two folders 1 folder for "filtering" with 8 presets 1 folder for "instrument processing" with 7 presets 1 fold...

Re: BASSGRID's Terminal Master Effect - need some info

I bought it during one of their sales since I do enjoy using channel strips. It's convenient having common things bundled into one package. I see this as more of a mixing tool. You'd never catch me using it for mastering. Mastering is where I'd rather use specific tools or reach for iZotope Ozone. I...

(Crusty Instrumental) Obduction

Recently, I was fiddling around with new ideas and remembered I've got a hard drive full of songs I've never finished. Why not open the vault and finish a few things before creating something new? After scrolling through what seemed like a never-ending list of extremely generically named songs (date...

Re: Is there a 2023 Roadmap?

Again I do believe R12 is stable NOW, but at this point I've simply lost interest. This pretty much sums up my thoughts and feelings. I caved and bought the R12 upgrade when it was pretty heavily discounted to $70 or whatever its lowest price point was. Have I installed R12 yet? Nope. As much as I ...

It's a shame Softube never discounted their REs before jumping ship. It's a little concerning to continually see solid RE developers leave.

Re: Critique my current mixing

i find your mixes generally pretty mid-heavy but totally in an area that works. I agree with Chizmata. Your mixes are already well done and polished. I wish I had some constructive criticism to offer but don't. Very cool track and catchy melody. Personally i feel the drums are taking up too much sp...

I couldn't tell you what the style is either, hence the weak "smooth instrumental" classification lol. I'll have to listen again for the drums. Good chance I got a little carried away with EQ and compression since I was trying a different approach to mixing on this track. what i meant was that i do...

Re: (Smooth Instrumental) Fluff

Nice guitar tones. What's your recipe? I believe I used one of the Softube Marshall amp sims for guitar tones on this song. They're surprisingly very responsive to dynamics especially when using low gain and occasional volume knob at max for that extra sizzle. From there, just some minor EQ, compre...

Re: Do you opt to use a VST Channel strip over instead of Reason SSL?

I use Softube's Console 1 with their various channel strips. Aside from having to load the VST onto every mix channel (would be great if there was a way to drop one time to all mix channels), it's a great workflow boost since I can handle all of my saturation, levels, EQ, compression, gating, etc in...

I'm still very neutral about it. Bought it 8 months ago but haven't installed it yet. Same here. Bought the upgrade when there was a heavy duty discount and never bothered activating with the amount of bugs and issues being mentioned various places. Maybe later this year I'll give it a go. For now,...

I've been picking up my guitar more often lately and trying to be more productive when it comes to completing songs rather than writing endless ideas that I never finish.
