Re: Propellerhead Balance & OS HighSierra
That's not what I meant. I work for PH, and I know we can't actively work on Balance. It has been out of production for a long time. However, it is basically a future-proof USB 2.0 Audio Device, and Apple supports those. They have also solved bugs in the past which had affected Balance, among other ...

Re: Propellerhead Balance & OS HighSierra
I suppose when Apple make changes to their USB 2.0 Audio Device class driver, they sometimes cause some regression issues for some devices. I guess you have to ask Apple at this point whether they support the device or not.

Re: Reason's use of disk memory, weird stuff happening
An audio recording is dropped when you delete the last clip using it, or when you do delete unused recordings. After each such occasion, save and optimize can reduce the size of the document by the whole length of those particular recordings. A recording can be considered "used" because it is part o...

Re: error code 0x80004005 Windows update
You would have to know more than that error code. Stuff like which executable is showing the error message? (You may be able to see by using Task Manager Processes/Details and figuring out which one owns the error window) Googling around is probably your best bet. Usually someone else has had and so...

That error code is defined as E_FAIL.
The official message text is "Unspecified error"

Re: Line output to guitar input?
It should be fine.
Check out the Input Options setup page in the POD HD - it can change the input jack impedance which is probably all you need besides matching gain.

Re: Petition: Fix the Balance Drivers
@Dabbler: PM me if you're serious about that. I would expect you have tried a USB 2.0 audio driver with Balance on Windows - once audio is working, I am sure we can disclose how the special buttons and functions are used on Windows (brief version: COM and USB HID). Why not share then the current PH ...

Re: Petition: Fix the Balance Drivers
Funny petition. :) It's not going to happen I guess the petition is more desperate than funny. Would it be so hard technically or time consuming to update it? I am on Win10 too using Balance without problems (at list I think so there are some audio dropouts recently) worrying whether the next windo...

Re: Petition: Fix the Balance Drivers
Funny petition. :) It's not going to happen, but the USB standard might provide a solution, with the generic USB 2.0 audio device class drivers probably rolled out for Windows 10 at least within a year or so. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/matthew_van_eerde/2016/09/15/installing-the-microsoft-clas...

I am, and had no issues with it so far, even on Windows 10 Since I got a new PC I've got an 8/10 chance of a BSOD. Which motherboard do you use? Mine's a Gigabyte Z170X-G1 and it doesn't like Balance. I also get the BSOD on Windows 10 on my workstation nowadays, and have not had time to troubleshoo...

...and also of course: Because buffer size is in samples, the buffer time in seconds changes with sample rate.
E.g. buffer size 256 at sample rate 44100 is 256/44100 seconds long, while buffer size 256 at sample rate 96000 is 256/96000 seconds long.

Re: Weird latency issue just started happen
Just a few points -- sample rate are the numbers like 44100, 48000, 88200, 96000, that set the data rate for the audio signal converter. Numbers like 128, 256, 512 are buffer sizes, that affect the minimum theoretical latency, DSP load spike tolerance and other things. A higher sample rate uses more...

I know that this processor is old. I have it very long now. :) Looking at the tests it has a performance similar to intel core i5 3470. @jonheal: That affects two things: 1. The maximum load Reason can put on the CPU (through the OS) for urgent, high-priority work. It can get laggy and hangy at some point. 2. How close to the (only approximately known) audio driver deadline Reason will go before telling you your computer is too slow...

@michal22: The X6 1090T is an old processor, about 6.5 years old now. The performance of a CPU can roughly be guessed by a few factors. I'd say the most important factors are age and price at release date. When it comes to age, significant advances tend to arrive every few years. When it comes to pr...

I would also recommend a proper measurement with LatencyMon, taken while you are repeating the known scenario that makes Reason click and pop the way you report. Just remember that the clicks and pops are probably much worse while measuring, and that's fine. The Focusrite Scarlett USB devices have a...

He meant to say HyperThreading, not multi-threading. If you don't get to BIOS/EFi setup, or don't see an option, just ignore it. What sample rate are you using? (Preferences -> Audio) Have you looked at the CPU usage in Task Manager as it "grinds to a halt" like you report? Is the CPU fully loaded? ...

Re: Is Good Music Production a Gift?
Slash might be a mark of fame and character, but if you are talking about guitar skills on a level that makes people (at least other guitarists) call someone gifted, I wouldn't consider Slash a particularly good example. I would say effort is much more important than any "gift" that I have observed ...

Those files are supposed to be scratch disk folder contents. If Reason puts such files anywhere except the scratch disk folder, that would be unexpected and should be reported. What platzangst describes is not really how Reason works. Reason always keeps only the original audio first recorded or bou...

You have probably ended up with some unexpected user permissions on something in Application Data. Try this: 1. Open explorer and paste into the address-field: %appdata%\Propellerhead Software\Reason 2. Does it open a folder? Does that contain a folder namned "Template Songs"? If yes, move it to the...

Somewhat broad genres to choose from, which affects my choices a lot. I understand thought that there is no perfect list except a very long one that would require a lot more votes to make a pattern. I actually don't like most drum'n'bass or jungle at all, yet I very much like some sub-genres and spe...

Re: Kong big critical error
What version of Windows are you using? If Windows 7 then it is quite unusual and might have an easy solution. As has been described before, Balance audio drivers for Windows are sensitive to some power management activity, and drivers for that in Windows 8/10. Balance can work perfectly with Windows...
