Re: Shoegaze/ My Bloody Valentine guitars
Shoegaze/MBV style guitars is not just one "typical sound". There's lots of layering and of course lots of FX. Half the fun is from making ridiculous effects chains. For anyone who likes that kind of thing, I would recommend my Chaos FX combinator packs: there are 3 of them now, and each one has 10 ...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!
That's not true for some of us. I don't know how large this minority is, but in my case, I like to use the Reason rack *in Reason* with VSTs in the rack. The integration of the Rack and the DAW (especially things like bussing, patching even across different tracks and combinators, and the ease of com...

Re: How have the introductions of VSTs changed how you use Reason?
Add me to the "without VST support I would have left Reason" pile. I use Reason's patching utilities to give me a building-blocks feeling and instant feedback in the rack, which I love. 6:2 mixer, Jiggerypokery splitters/mergers, Morphin Xfader, SPEM mini-mixer, all great!! But nearly all my sound c...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!
yeah in my dreams someone on the Dev team takes a few minutes to think about all the little quality of life options that would smooth out the pain-in-the-ass things that can make Reason less pleasant to use (*if they actually use Reason, which I am really starting to doubt). Default Timestretch: on/...

Re: Bassgrid - Filter X1
oh, aesthetically, it's ugly as hell, I agree! looks like a gaming PC or something. But the layout and usability looks top-notch. Very hands-on, not much wasted space, everything laid out simply and logically. Compare that to the horrible UI for (again) Sweeper, with all the dead space, and mismatch...

Re: New Sampler Thread
Not even close. NN-XT is nicely organized and easy to use, but the automation absolutely sucks, and the playback features are less powerful than a good 90's hardware sampler (for example, no freely adjustable start, loop and crossfade). Not to mention no timestretch modes, etc. Grain also cannot be ...

Re: Bassgrid - Filter X1
Maybe you are thinking of something else? The SSL EQ device does not have resonant LP, HP, Band pass or Comb filters. The only "clean" Filter in Reason, as far as I know, is the old ECF-42, which sounds great if you don't move it, but is very steppy when sweeping (due to the limitations of when it w...

Re: Bassgrid - Filter X1
Something like this should have been the Native Reason update to the ECF-42*. Much more useful in the rack than Sweeper. If the Dev is reading this - one feature you might add for v1.2 : a button to toggle between serial mode and parallel mode. Right now I assume its serial. You also might want to a...

Re: Is there a Reason user "personality"?
You're making a really good point here - FL Studio was looked down on as just a toy, even more than Reason. But now, FL Studio is name dropped by massive hitmakers, while Reason still has the same reputation. In the real world, away from fanboys and forums, Musicians I work with are ALWAYS surprised...

Re: Is there a Reason user "personality"?
Stereotypical Reason user quotes: "You only need a 4-track cassette to make music!" "Reason is unique because it has.... (basic feature)" "If Reason had (basic feature) it would ruin how unique it is" "Reason can load all my files from 2001 that I am still working on" "If you really want (basic feat...

Re: Future RE purchase concerns.
"I am very concerned that things that doesn't exist yet won't be compatible with things I already have and can continue using just like I always did" It's not a problem. Get the new one if you need it, or don't if you don't. Move on ;) I'm gonna start a club for "f*ck backwards compatibility", see i...

Re: Loudness Meter: a new RE for preview
In that case - I would argue that you are not making a loudness meter , it's a loudness analyser tool. I'm not trying to be a dick - but I use loudness meters in my work all the time, they are really essential for my job, and the gold standard is THIS - and there is a good reason it is one of the mo...

Maybe not even 4U.. there seems to be a lot of dead gray space in that UI - maybe just use all of that space for the numerical readouts?

Re: Loudness Meter: a new RE for preview
Reason needs a loudness meter in the rack. The current gold standard for a UI is the free VST loudness meter from Youlean. I would recommend taking some design cues from that - not the moving graph, which would take up space and be a cpu hog, but particularly the big easy-to-read numerical display f...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!
Are you joking? 650 bars is only like 20 minutes. You never play music for more than 20 minutes? But why would there be any limit? "Reason, only for people who make short songs" Must say 650 bars or an hr+ of content in the sequencer is quite more than they probably ever expected people to use lol. ...

Re: Even Peak Dynamics in Reason 10
I'll give you a very quick rundown, take it step by step and take your time getting used to how these things work, don't expect a single "magic fix". Basically, most professionally mastered tracks use several stages of dynamics control. This is much more natural and less noticeable than crushing it ...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!
No. I was very specific. Reason cannot zoom to the whole track/song length . It can zoom to an arbitrary limit of 650-ish bars . Those things are not the same. The manual says the sequencer can zoom to "show all" - it cannot. Ah, ok. Well, then you are not really talking about Zoom functionality not...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!
No, it f*cking doesn't . "Z" only toggles the zoom between the selected section up to a length of about 650 bars , or the full sequencer window up to a length of about 650 bars . You simply cannot zoom out to see the whole project above a certain length. Seriously, try it. It is arbitrary and stupid...

Without any details beyond the headline, I think a lot of people are over-reacting to very limited information. Re: Reason 12 is coming!
strong disagree. if you want to make content for old versions of reason, use old versions of reason. cluttered dropdowns cost me time (= money). the obsession with keeping everything stuck in 2000, and adding more and more devices instead of updating anything, is one of the worst things about the re...

Re: FREE from Chaos FX: Pandemon Stereo Panner
This is correct - most of my effects use Mod Wheel to control a feature like LFO depth, filter, detune, etc. (Thanks for helping the guy out, Ottostrom!) Also, try automating the autopan depth and rate, rather like you would automate a vibrato. You can really bring synths and pads alive! Can be very...

Re: Reverb after Haas, or before?
when I say pretty quickly, I mean as part of standard mixing techniques with the various verbs you would already have on hand, just a few seconds, probably as quick or quicker than loading in a new plugin and setting it up! I am not sure this RE would work at all on actual stereo signals because -if...
