Re: One day it will all make sense: ambient works on hardware synthesizers

Great work, Jay. Especially #3 Sublimation got to me. That bassy pad / paddy bass you open up the filter on @ 2:25 - Deepmind? Hey thanks! That bassy pad is the one and only Moog Minitaur through the Strymon Big Sky. No matter what I try on bass, nothing seems to be able to beat the Minitaur. Here'...

Re: Arturia MicroFreak

So the MicroFreak is a pretty incredible dollar-for-value synth. The four-note paraphony allows you to run sequences and then play top notes over them on the keyboard. The analogue filter sounds great. The variety of oscillator types makes it quite versatile. And the footprint on desk space is tiny ...

One day it will all make sense: ambient works on hardware synthesizers

Hey, ReasonTalk team! I've spent the last year having a bit of a romance with hardware, and documenting it as video over here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu1R-PodIMk0liS7OGSUboQ . I'm pleased to say I've put a bunch of the ambient, atmospheric pieces together into an album and have now release...

Re: Well, I went and did it. Just pulled the trigger on an Elektron Digitone

NIce work! There's lots to like about the Digitone (I actually love it most for its ambient qualities, and for its small footprint while travelling). But honestly, I don't have a lot of love for the Elektron sequencer or for trying to lay drums down on a single Digitone track; editing parameters and...

Out of interest where was the cabin?
In the Discovery Islands, British Columbia, Canada. I love the temperate rainforest.

And thanks so much for the kind words! Good luck with finding some hardware; it's always a real joy to add new beautiful sounds to the palette.

Re: Companion for the OP-Z

I've been using the Digitone with the OP-Z a bunch. I'm personally not a huge fan of the synth sounds on it, so it's nice to swap them out with the multiple voices of the Digitone. Here's a new video I made with the OP-Z and Digitone playing friendly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXdaWwlMJ1Q If y...

Re: Moog SIRIN

I am very excited to have just joined the Moog club! I mulled over this for quite a while, and at NZD $1150, this is a hefty investment for a monophonic synth! The tweakability of the knobs on this thing is out of this world. I really hadn't appreciated just how a super smooth potentiometer could b...

an Empress Zoia Holy shit. Currently watching cuckoo using it. I want one. So bad. I only wish it had USB power input. Honestly? It's cool and interesting, and a great addition to a pedal board or effects suite, but I don't think it's really worth losing any marbles over. The CPU limitations make i...

Beautiful, man. I love your music and your videos are educational as well. They also help with not being afraid of rather complex hardware setups, where a person as I am is always afraid to lose control and get lost in the buttons and cables. Your songs are so well-structured, it's always possible ...

Re: New Behringer synth: DeepMind 12

Can we revive this thread please? Any fellow Deepmind owners here? I'm thirsty for knowledge. I recently got my hands on one and after fiddling around in the menu and trying out some things, I finally hooked it up to Reason today and tried to feed it MIDI and get some basic kind of workflow going. ...

Super cool. But at the same I guess the Legend plus Reason effects can do the same + some more. While I agree with you that softsynths can do a hell of a lot more, and can sound great, I've switched over to using primarily hardware for music making and finished more music in the last three months t...

Re: Novation CIrcuit Mono Station just arrived

Amazing to hear! I love this thing, and think it does both subtle and bonkers really, really well. I find it really shines with some dark reverb or stereo delay.

And it plays with the regular Circuit so seamlessly that it just feels like you’re playing an expanded Circuit!

Enjoy.

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

One aspect of the Mono Station that I'm pretty jazzed about (aside from, you know, analog goodness meets Circuit) is patch flipping. I've never seen an analog box that could do anything like that. Maybe it exists somewhere and I simply haven't seen it, but that feature alone seems like a game chang...

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

Well, speaking of little mono synths with knobby controls AND grooveboxes, I could not resist taking advantage of the half-price discount code for a Circuit Mono Station. I've been looking at various REAL analog boxes to pair with my Circuit and/or MPC Live. Turns out Novation just made my decision...
