I think it's because the Viking came first and is an emulation of the Voyager (which is a monosynth), the polymodular system (which was released later) is kind of like a very flexible polyphonic viking... albeit with a different filter. While I love dual arpeggio, I really wish they would have figured out a way to implement PolyCV. Maybe they could have easily added a switch on the back side of each device to switch between mono or poly.
