Re: What can I know and understand about the difference between mixing and mastering a song?

Regarding the title: Mixing = making multiple sounds work together. You level, eq, compress, etc. in context of the whole mix. Mastering = VERY carefully bring out what you can of the mixdown, which basically is like "1" sound, or a stereo recording. Whatever you change, affects everything. Think of...

Recommend a 5.1 DTS decoder DAC, please!

I'm looking for a standalone 5.1 decoder. I did see that cheapo HD Audio Rush 5.1 box, but hmm... (Btw, things got resolved with Edifier, and I got a replacement for my T5 subwoofer. The sound together with the R1000T4 is decent now. And it sounds very good with an R1280DBs, but that's a different t...

Re: Looking for a Mentor/Teacher (Paid)

I think you may have also posted this on the Reason Reddit, and I’ll answer similarly. First, what do you mean by “spatial” EQ? My suggestion is to get feedback from more than one person. I can’t tell you how amazing it was when I was first assisting at a big studio to see how different engineers u...

Currently, I work in just that order, but backwards, from mastering, to writing nothing. : D

Re: Should you mix in mono?

I always have been a user of many headphones, yet never made an OOPS(ie).

I test on speakers of all kinds - but it's more about the "it's finished and it works" feeling.

1. No. 2. It doesn't.
Because commonly, they suggest newbies to start mixing in mono, then make adjustments in stereo.

I mean, you responsibly take care of mono compatibility and OOPS, unless intended, during sound design.

Re: 2.1 speaker problems

I get your points, but like I said in the Soundbar thread, I just need some average speakers, for casual use. I still stick to my professional IEM system, when it comes to studio tasks, and I usually say that, too. : ) I didn’t realize these would not be a part of your music production system, carr...

Re: 2.1 speaker problems

Doesn't sound like it is a great set of speakers... Too me, it sounds like they are broken... Everywhere... But not bad for under $100 powered monitors from China! I know you probably don’t want to hear this but I’d seriously consider waiting to save up for exactly what you want. Speakers are THE c...

Re: 2.1 speaker problems

Okay, I probably was charged by my hair drier. x D There's no shock now from my DAC's metallic housing. And nothing explained where it could have come from. At least that's 'resolved'. That is not really a good news 😂 Unless it's still the speakers' work. Fingers crossed my DAC didn't get damaged. ...

Re: 2.1 speaker problems

Doesn't sound like it is a great set of speakers... Too me, it sounds like they are broken... Everywhere... There's another suspicion. I read that LG TV + Topping E30 (not E30 II, but still), didn't work perfectly via optical out. Maybe the TV sends out signal at reduced volume, which might affect ...

2.1 speaker problems

I got the Edifier R1000T4 stereo speakers, and the T5 subwoofer. I ran into a list of problems: - When taking the volume of my Topping E30 II DAC back from 0 dB, to like -24 dB, the woofer's DSP is audibly opening and closing a Gate (dynamics processing), making basses either annoying, or disappear ...

Re: What did you just buy yourself?

Edifier R1000T4 and T5. A separate, yet matching 2.1 wood speaker system. For 180 EUR value total, that's a killer. Sounds satisfying so far with some shows, and music. Obviously better than the 4k TV's built-in speakers. : ) There were tops plastic sounbar + bluetooth woofer 2.1 systems in the pric...

Re: What's the optimal speaker frequency range?

The answer is about 41 Hz, if we go by bass guitar, or double bass.

So, if a system covers 40 Hz at the lower end, we won't be missing out much. Musically, it will all be there.

What's the optimal speaker frequency range?

I'm mostly interested, what would be the minimum lowest frequency required, so that we don't miss out when casually listening to music. I don't mind losing some SFX rumble, or extreme low tails of drums and things like that. But, I don't want bass notes to become thin. I would probably listen to all...

I still using for mobile usage a Korg Mikcrokey,it just has no aftertouch but the keys are very smooth to play and more or less silent, perfect when your would play while recording in a jam. Re: Suggest a small midi keyboard

M-Audio Keystation Mini 32.

More keys, some buttons, a knob and thinner than an LPK25.

However, LPK25 is useful for self-defense.

(Or ~ I don't have it, but looks nice: Alesis V Mini. Has knobs and drum pads.)

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

I have an Edifier wired soundset with a sub in my living room, connected to my TV. It sounds nice (not exceptional). It also has Bluetooth, so I do use it to test mixes on as well, from my phone. Works for me. Yep, that's all I need, just something fun to listen to, for this purpose. The TV has Blu...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

Good news! For a little extra, I found the Edifier R1000T4 active stereo speakers, and the T5 active subwoofer. All separate, affordable, ideal for a small room, all wired, and most importantly, wood boxes. Again, this is for consumption. (Watching TV, playing video games, listening to music, playin...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

I rather meant that people on here are used to a full range (or close to full range) system, with acceptable latency, and separate speakers, that have wooden housing/boxes. Plus, on my desk, there would be keyboards in front of a sound bar, which gets in the way of sound. And I already have mediocr...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

It sure would be better, but I also think that most people are used to a studio setting. But a studio often sounds different than a home 'hi-fi' system, so even when I hear a big home hi-fi it doesn't sound "right" to my ears! Bigger point: it's a great mix reference to have IMO because many folks ...

Not sure what folks are objecting to. It sounds a lot better than the tinny speakers on my LG OLED.
