Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

it could be that I won't be getting any speakers at all in the end. Too many compromises. Don't make me say "I told you so" :puf_bigsmile: Yeah... I'd be happy with just a simple stereo fullrange system. I mean, there are studio speakers, that are affordable, even if imperfect; but subwoofers cost ...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

Fuck soundbars. I like the concept of soundbars with sub, instead of sub with speakers. Why? Cabling. In regular 2.1 systems, the amp is built into the subwoofer, so you connect the subwoofer to the mains and then you connect your speakers via separate cables to the subwoofer and then you connect t...

Re: Volt 2 USB Audio Interface not working

If you use 1 interface, then the dedicated driver is usually a bit better than ASIO4ALL.

Under the audio settings, you need to select your interface as input and output ~ both in Windows' control panel, and Reason's preferences. Check the volume levels, too.

Re: Smart/AI TV and screen calibration

I absolutely hate the motion smoothing in new TVs and turn it off immediately. I have an ancient calibration DVD I use for setting contrast and color etc. TVs from the factory are configured to make an impact on the showroom floor not in your home theater. I love it, so it's up to everyone. But yea...

Re: best vocal booth on a budget?

So, to sum it up, do I understand the following about sound shields correctly? Pro: absorbs sound, thus reduces room reverb and what leaks out from the room Contra: lower frequencies may still pass through, leaving us with booming reverb, slightly LPF-ed sound; since shields are close to the microp...

Smart/AI TV and screen calibration

I saw yesterday a video, that explained that we can't calibrate a TV at home. Fair enough, when it comes to accurate colors. (Let me take a moment to apologize that I always break my text like this - I like to separate some thoughts ~ so there's a logic behind it.) There are, however, things like co...

Re: best vocal booth on a budget?

I’ve never been a fan of any small vocal ‘booth’ sound. Boxy is typically what you get, or if you’re lucky you can get a dead boxy vs live boxy sound. But there is something about the small space that, when I’ve been able to to comparison tests, was revealed to be inferior to simply having more spa...

Re: Anyone interested in my studio construction/renovation process?

What I found about foam: if they catch sunlight they are going to pulverise. You will find dust one day. Maybe these micro fibers are also bad for your lungs. Cork is cool and useful because it looks great and you can spike some stuff to it. I also love just have lots of books around me and this he...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

Do you do 5.1 music or alike? I played with the thought, since in the binaural world, I work on some 3D engine. Translating that to 5.1 would be fairly easy. Nope, basic stereo is plenty for me for music production. :) I did watch an interesting interview with Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree) as h...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

A B plan is that I wait a little more, then grab a Logitech Z906 5.1 system. Separate speakers, wired, properly PC compatible. I'm very happy to still be listening to my 5.1 system. Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

I would add that most music listened to by the younger generation is being listened to from a smart phone speaker. Damn shame. Get off my grass, you rotten kids! I hear you. I sent a mix to my daughter for her to hear and when I asked her if she listened to it, she said yeah, on her smartphone spea...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

I only have 1 HDMI ARC cable, and I hope I can mess around with both the TV's speaker, AND the soundbar system separately (via PC and Asio4All) as a bonus. Optical cable, I have, too. Then there are my 2 additional interfaces, so my old self-built speakers, and crappy noisy amplifier can serve as r...

Just remember the warnings of Benjamin Franklin, "Those who give up good high fidelity for convenience will end up with neither."
That's not the case here. I can't avoid the convenience that purpose-built systems come with.

If it's total crap, I can just bring it back, and buy something else.

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

I've got some p.o.s. LG soundbar that's probably about 7 years old now. It has never sounded great. And it's only gotten worse over the years. I have had the "subwoofer" unplugged for years because it sounds awful.. really awful; the frequency range and volume seem way out of whack. For example, wh...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

I have the Sonos Arc Bar, the sub and two rear sonos 1. It is not as good as the pricetag should justify, but it does the job. I have exactly the same setup, plus the Port for a turntable (which was one 'must have' feature that led us to Sonos. It was an upgrade from the previous sound bar from Viz...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

Hi there Rob, I get your point. For daily TV use, I have a Samsung Soundbar and Subwoofer system. I have a Samsung 55 inch 3d 4K TV. When I watch a good movie or music broadcast and of course when I use my Blu-ray player - I connect to my hybrid digital NAD 3045D amp by Optical cable from my TV. I ...

This would cost about 5% of the price of that, so might be ever so slightly lesser quality. x D That said, the LG TV's manual says that it really does optimize the sound wi...

Re: Any experiences with soundbars?

Where would it fail? Going from your other posts here on the forum, you are not the stereotypical consumer that these things are aimed at. From my perspective, a speaker set with a separate subwoofer will have a better range, basically because of the small size speakers that are in these bars. Also...

Any experiences with soundbars?

I'm considering buying a soundbar for this 4k LG TV. One with a sub box, so 2.1 system. Knowing how companies are, I'm looking at likewise LG branded soundbars, so that they are compatible and offer as many features as possible. Then, there's a magic remote thing, with some microphone in it, that su...

When you say sponges do you mean acoustic foam, such as the Auralex square panels with wedge texture that everyone uses? If so, I have a bunch of that hanging around my home studio but never had any mold.. yet… however, I never considered it’s basically a low pass filler messing up the room’s frequ...

What are your experiences today? Is this controller still worth buying?

The price doubled (or more) after COVID, but it's still the cheapest controller with encoders.

Re: Guitar question

I’ve mentioned this in other threads before, but as a total non-guitar player I started with a nylon string guitar, the cheapest I could get that actually sounded OK and had a pickup (so I could record direct and add FX). Through an amp sim it actually sounded fairly decent as an electric. But the ...

Of course it is. Planned obsolescence is pretty much a requirement in this system, and thus the laws are written to uphold the interests of the system.
I sure hope this 4k TV I got will last longer than just 2 years! I also hope it was a much better investment than a phone upgrade.
