Re: Interesting levelling method using pink noise?

interesting idea. will try this myself. it's also something that would be easy to automate. but there's one big issue going on here: he is adjusting the levels based on his headphone. the headphone is not flat sounding in no way, so the compensation is not flat either. but again, this would be cool ...

Re: Reason heads

all systems sound differently. so check your sound on as much systems as you can. and get to know how it should sound on that equipment.

mixing is always a compromise. never optimal. between no speakers sound the same. no ears are the same.

Re: Hurray to streaming: Dynamic is the new Loud

I hate that with all my heart. Everything is so pumped up that it turns into a mush of noise. I worked as a techie on the radio and I couldn't stand listening to that crap any more so I had monitoring turned down as much as possible. On top of it all, everything goes through an extra compressor bef...

Re: Hurray to streaming: Dynamic is the new Loud

Some mastering engineers are still trying to make a track sound as loud as possible. They still believe we’re in a war, the loudness war. Well, guess what? http://melodiefabriek.com/blog/hurray-streaming-dynamic-new-loud/ Just want to point out that in my experience it's never been the mastering en...

Re: Sound Devices compact field mixers / USB audio interface

I am using a Sony D-50. Extremely quiet. But it depends on the mics you're using. I use it a lot for interviews and phonography sounds. Using EV RE-50 mic with the D-50 is the best team ever. Dead quiet and you can hold that mic into the wind without problems. MONO and useful for voices only. Sound...

Re: Bad format error

Ok here's a workaround for a bad format error if it's RE related... Simply delete the 'offending' RE that you're having trouble with, then reopen your track and you should get the cardboard rack insert instead for the missing REs if in use. At this point, save as a new track file (as long as opened...

Re: How to find matching sounds for a song?

Imo if all goes to well together it is shit. Tension is needed in all good art. Sure most modern music is so much balanced it starts to bore the shits out of me after listening to it for a couple of bars. Getting some interesting tension, contrast, play with the dynamics, make it lively, not boring....

Re: How to find matching sounds for a song?

The best tip I ever got: observe yourself lovingly.
If you are working on something, that is good. Even if you make mistakes. Compliment yourself for doing it, trying it. You don't need to be perfect, just do it.

"Just trial and error, practice, practice, and practice?"

Yes. The hard way. Just do it. Make mistakes. Learn. Keep on doing it.

Their are no rules. Only your own rules.

Re: Bad format error

I believe that is a mistake from support, the case should be reopened shortly after we have another look. In rare cases, procedures like these can be forgotten by someone. I still can't promise you the file is repairable, but we will have a real look at it, of course. ah!! thanks!! *fingers crossed*

Re: Bad format error

Got a reply from support: "I'm afraid that I can't open the file either. It is hard to say what could have happened to the file but if can occur if the saving process is interrupted in some way or if you store your files on an external drive and eject the drive in an unsafe way. Just to be sure you ...

Re: Bad format error

Maybe Propellerhead should release a tool to unlock their container files which Reason are. It must be a protected zip-file. Ableton is doing it better: it simply create an open folder on your drive which you can access. Including audio files. I can understand that for the Props to change their file...

Bad format error

One of my songs gives a bad format error. Thankfully it's not a project for a client. But man does this scare the shit out of me! I have had this problem a couple of times this year. It has always been a bad RE causing it. Any ideas what to do about it? I have bought many REs so not using them is li...

were you able to measure the total latency, from input to output?

I am on a Focusrite which I use for guitar. RV7000 can be a trouble maker on 64 samples of latency depending on the IR complexity.
