Re: SSL CHANNEL COMPS...FIXED ATTACK
I mentioned it to him, but I think he’s so busy with new content. It’s not like it’s “wrong” or going to blow anything up. It’s just that it’s a bit restrictive and I didn’t like the extra delay incurred by the feedback loop. The simple version of this (stereo imager on side-chain input only) is ab...

Re: SSL CHANNEL COMPS...FIXED ATTACK
...don't feed the out of the compressor into the side-chain input? I thought you use the control room out into stereo imager and out of that into the SC Input? How are people connecting the out to the in on the compressor itself? Signal flow in the Master Section is as follows: Master Compressor, I...

Re: SSL CHANNEL COMPS...FIXED ATTACK
I use a similar technique all the time (using the stereo imager), and it works great. But as others have probably gotten tired of hearing me say, it works better if you don’t feed the output of the compressor into the side-chain input - and it’s so easy to do it that way I’m not sure why folks stil...

Re: SSL CHANNEL COMPS...FIXED ATTACK
There's also that trick to focus the master bus comp on the mid/high only to give your mix more low end weight.
You can see it being done here:
Ryan uses the Synapse AF-4 but it can be done using the stereo imager split outs.

Europa isn't a traditional wavetable synth so sample loading isn't possibly unless they totally redo how it's made.scratchnsnifff wrote:Now maybe propellerhead can add sample loading to Europa? haha il hope for that Instead of a Thor update lol

Re: Grain & Europa - why as REs, why such limited "backside"
Curious as to what you're looking for on the back panel that's not currently available? CV ins and outs for a bunch of things. Filter cutoff, LFO's, etc. The modmatrix (which doesn't have many slots, another issue) isn't an alternative, you'd have to reprogram every time you switch patches. Ah so d...

Re: Grain & Europa - why as REs, why such limited "backside"
I suspect it's because the release of Reason 10 was rushed. Why it had to be rushed, I don't know. But both Grain and Europa feel unfinished as a result. I really hope they get updates, currently their backsides are shameful. Curious as to what you're looking for on the back panel that's not curren...

Re: Grain & Europa - why as REs, why such limited "backside"
And why their back side is so limited compared to older devices - or certain REs, like Expanse - e.g. there's no way to route audio to their effect modules? This is because these devices aren't "normal" synths. The way the modifiers / spectral filter / harmonics, etc work on the sound from the gene...

Re: MClass Compressor vs Rack Extension Compressors
I think I actually have one from CM magazine - Hornet Fat Fet. Need to give it a try. Did you ever look into the Waves CLA-76, they have it on sale for $29usd. It is modelled after two 1176 hardware units of CLA's. Yeah I know about waves' 76 plugins. I'm a fan of NI and they have one too but their...

Re: "Accuracy" of automation in Reason?
If you think about how a console automation is typically used it's usually smooth movements (riding) or you might fully fade up or down a track or two. There's no hard jumps like you find when gating sounds. That's why devices such as alligator are recommended. Or if you want super precise cuts, bou...

Re: "Accuracy" of automation in Reason?
I'm confused. If I (for example) grab the freq slider on a Subtractor and move it, are there actually only 127 possible values? Or are there actually vastly more, but the display is just showing them as 0–127. If the answer is the former and given the huge number-space of 16bit, why are there only ...

Re: Reason 1.0 vs 10.0 - visual comparison
Assuming Props are not interested in up-rezzing the devices and making the interface zoomable, I'd want them to at least enable putting the Rack and Mixer side by side on one screen, with vertical divider. Whoever thought putting all 3 views on top of each is great idea - especially with that huge ...

Re: ReasonTalk Winter Competition!
If you bounce to track, you must leave the original note lane/device intact. This goes for VSTs as well Why? This rule is very hard to follow, especially if you need to save CPU cycles or if your workflow is based on sound-mangling audio. I don't know if I'm missing something with the instructions ...

Re: Using the Maximizer
More or less skimmed the thread but didn't see anything mentioned about properly calibrated monitors for doing your mixing/mastering. For me at least, if the tracks don't sound loud enough and the meters are lighting up like a Christmas tree, it's because my monitors or headphones aren't loud enough...

Re: Sanity check my gain-staging approach?
Sorry about the plethora of replies but if you're really concerned about fades and automation messing up your effects, bounce the entire track to audio without volume automation and then mix the song with the stems (also technically how I learned about mixing. Was done from 24 track tape. The perfor...

Re: Sanity check my gain-staging approach?
You're also forgetting about capturing the fade from a performance perspective too. Give a guitarist a volume pedal and have them do it during the take. Not everything was done in the mix.

Re: Sanity check my gain-staging approach?
Well, making things harder than they need to be is my specialty... ;) I'm particularly thinking about fade-ins/fade-outs, though. It seems like all 4 of the approaches I outlined above are less than ideal. And in the actual analog world, it's surely even worse. Like, you have a guitar sitting perfe...

Re: Sanity check my gain-staging approach?
It's been a long time since I used an analogue console (college, mixing 24 track) but I recall all automation was done using the channel faders or master fader (or buss if it was used). It was also very minute movements, nothing drastic. I would think that if you're doing any fader riding that's ver...

Re: MClass Compressor vs Rack Extension Compressors
Not rambling at all! Most pros don’t verbalize the “why” when doing tutorials, one of my biggest pet peeves with video tutorials. That’s the FIRST question I want to ask! I was lucky the guys I worked for in the early years always explained the “why” when they were showing me things. It all starts ...

Re: MClass Compressor vs Rack Extension Compressors
Contrary to my old ways I try not to compress most things now. If I do it starts with the SSL mixer. On vocals I'll sometimes add an extra M-Class. When I do that I make sure to go really light on both of them. If its not good enough still I'll do a parallel compression channel and really go to tow...
