Re: Bad acoustics are great

I've heard plenty of times that you "should" mix on lower volume, which I'm sure it good advice for the most part. But occasionally I mix on high volumes because I find it easier to figure out if certain frequencies are too loud and ear fatiguing. A good mix should sound good on high volumes too wi...

Re: Processing Vocals - Parallel vs. Plain Compression

McDSP Moo and Klanghelm MJUC (VST/AU) can do super slow compression which won't sound like a compressor but is more like riding the vocal with a fader. This sometimes works like magic for example on very complex voices with a lot of dynamics. I also use iZotope Declick a lot because I hate the "mou...

Re: Is it possible to convert a Rex lop to wav file?

You can use rex loops in Ableton as well. I still find rex best sounding for beats. Also in Ableton. Snappy attack.

I can easily detect bad guitar sound on my HD600.
I read in reviews, they aren't exactly flat response headphones. Did you calibrate them for your hearing?
No I didn't calibrate them.

Re: Bad acoustics are great

for me it's the other way around. nearfield in a room cover up dynamics I will hear on headphones. for me the sound in a room is very forgiven. floating air. on headphones it is very pure. guitar amps can sound terrible on headphones. so you need a very open sounding one to get the true tones, to m...

Re: Bad acoustics are great

Maybe TOO perfect, which can make them great for editing IMO because of the exposed details and isolation from room reflections etc., but less so for mixing IMO - could be you've not yet experienced mixing in a great sounding room? Such an experience could very possibly change your opinion of headp...

Re: Bad acoustics are great

While some things can be equalized, there's no way to non-physically stop 'reverberations'. Makes me wonder... They say, closed headphones are bad, because some frequencies resonate in our ears, however, the "reverberation" tail, or release, or whatever shouldn't be that much of a problem, thus sho...

Re: Greta Van Fleet

The only thing I don't like is that they stay within the format. The music, hairstyle, style of clothing, it's all exactly like it used to be. It is super conservative and that gets me nervous. Break some fucking rules. Step outside that format.

Bad acoustics are great

Many people check their mixes on iPhone earplugs, in the car, on super small near field speakers, or an old getto blaster. The car is so often mentioned by anyone doing hiphop. If it sounded good in the car it was good. Weird thing though: the car is small and acoustic people always say you need a l...

Re: Distortion as an effect - but with dynamics?

You are right. But weird thing is that I don't hear it as compression. And even using a compressor often results in a more lively and dynamic tone to my ears. But I agree, that's the wrong terminology. In the end it only matter how it sounds. Not how we call it. Best stuff we cannot explain. That m...

Re: Distortion as an effect - but with dynamics?

Saturations adds to rms value because the signal gets more complicated because it includes more tones, more complexity. Would not call this lack of dynamics. I would call it a more colorfull tone. Check the sound of Stevie Ray Vaughn for example. Super lively and dynamic, because of superb use of s...

Re: Distortion as an effect - but with dynamics?

saturation is dynamic. it responds to the signal in a dynamic way, non-lineair. so I don't get what's not dynamic about it. I am a guitar player and when using good saturation devices I can adjust the amount of saturation by my playing dynamics. Yeah but the dynamics are gone - transformed into dis...

I guess at least the MacBooks will be using the same stuff that iOS uses. Apple focusses on iPads and iPhones in general, so I guess this all makes sense.

But it is superb. LUFS for the win!
It is now. Download the latest version! :)
beta version 2 you mean? yes that one scales. superb metering.
