I have some old bass tracks recorded on tape that I need to add articulation to. The playing was great but the tone is mushy. The bass is alone on its own track and I’m looking for something to run it through to give it some articulation.

It is important tor remember that polarity and phase are two different things. Any time you mix two sound sources (unless they are identical) there will always be some phase cancellation and some addition. Assuming the same level for both signals, addition can only double the level but cancellation ...

And after you get your monitors perfectly flat, the only time anyone else listening to your mix will hear what you heard is when they sit in your room in your mixing position.

Are you on a Mac? If so you have to authorize the program to use the built in mic before it will work.

There have been a few posts both here and on Reddit that say they are sucessful using 10.4 on Big Sur. Search “reason 10 Big Sur”

I found a couple of videos that suggest you can convert an audio track to MIDI by just dragging it into a MIDI track.. Doesn't work at all for me. Does this work for anyone else? what am I missing?

I think part of your mystery is understanding the difference between “electrical boost and cut” vs “acoustical boost and cut”. Electrical is pretty straight forward. You can simply do either, provided you don’t run out of headroom. But an electrical boost may not result in and acoustical boost. Cuts...
