Re: Excellent Strings Library - Incredible Value!
And if you already own Hyperion Micro, it's even cheaper. Soundiron has one of the most generous upgrade policies - allowing you to deduct the cost of the lesser library from the more advanced one.

Re: Modes The Beatles Used
Long ago, after a few years of high school and college theory, and failed attempts at writing from that angle, I decided to instead work on my feel. I knew I was going to take one step back, but hoped for two steps forward in return. Within a few years I was signed to MCA/Master Series - not saying...

Re: Modes The Beatles Used
Knowledge of music theory is definitely not a requirement for making music, especially if your focus is on creating original works. However, there are situations where theory comes in very handy. For instance, if you're composing on spec, it can save you lots of time and wasted effort to know which ...

Re: Reason Vs FL Studio sound comparison
The DAW that sounds the best is the one used by the best musicians, best producers, and best engineers. Pro Tools? That's it. I give up. Who wants to buy my license? Nope, that's just it - any DAW qualifies. The only thing that matters is the talent using it. To look at it another way... let's say ...

Re: Do You Use Channel Strip Plugins?
When tracking on an SSL E/G most engineers patched around the console where possible, and ran things "cold" where not possible (to avoid the "extra crispy" artifacts of overdriving the modules). .. ...The "sound" (of the E especially) was heavily criticized by many the "golden ears" engineers of th...

Re: Delta MIDI Computer (Introductory Sale!)
Lots of fun playing around with this... and I'm barely scratching the surface. It's devices like this that make me wish the rack was scalable or that RE's could break out into a window like VST's. The limitations imposed on device size make it cumbersome to work with large and complex designs. Not t...

Re: Do You Use Channel Strip Plugins?
Reason's SSL mixer emulates the SSL EQ curves and compression behavior, which is fine. But it doesn't try to impart any of the character or analog sound of an actual SSL console. So in that regard, it's not a full and complete emulation of anything SSL. That's not to say, it's a bad mixer - quite t...

Re: Do You Use Channel Strip Plugins?
Nothing wrong with Reason's mixer, but I use a third party SSL channel strip and console emulation because I want an 'as close as possible to a real SSL' experience. I want the analog circuit emulation - the saturation, the noise and distortion, the clipping. Reason's "SSL" does not model that. Jim...

Re: Do You Use Channel Strip Plugins?
I like to use good console emulations. For me, it's more about the sound and character they impart rather than the convenience of having gate/comp/EQ in a single plugin. On some tracks, I'll even throw on a channel strip just to get the console saturation, but will perform any compression and EQ wit...

Double tracking is the way to go, but failing that... if you have the Polar RE, it has some nice presets for vocal doubling and spreading. Polar is actually a very versatile and useful RE. I love it on vocals and guitars.

Re: Playing Guitar (not recording) through Reason, getting static
If you plug a microphone into your audio interface, do you still get static? If so, check all the cabling - both going into the audio interface and between the interface and your computer. Is it a crackling type of static or is it more of a hum? If it's a hum and you're using single coil pickups, li...

Re: How do you master your works/beats after cooking them straight from the sequencer
A basic mastering chain consists of: EQ -> Compressor -> Limiter This is often augmented with a Stereo Imager, Enhancer/Saturator , and/or maybe a gentle Reverb , usually inserted somewhere after the EQ and before the Limiter. Besides imparting loudness to a track, mastering should also address over...

Re: Practice with Shreddage
Libraries that require full Kontakt can be loaded into Kontakt Player just fine. The only caveat is they can only operate for 15 minutes at a time. So you should be able to load Shreddage 3 into Kontakt Player. Use the File tab in Kontakt Player to navigate to the Shreddage 3 installation directory ...

Yeah, Omnisphere did it for me. Now, whenever I check out a new synth or sound library, I ask myself, "Can I do this in Omnisphere?", and the answer is usually "yes". Next. But still, occasionally it's just fun to get a new toy anyway.

Re: The best cheap String Libraries question
I'm a big fan of Hyperion Strings. And the Micro-> to -> Elements discount bonus is a great way to invest gradually. In terms of bang for the buck, Hyperion is an amazing deal. I also like Hyperion because of its raw dry sound, which makes it very flexible in terms of processing. Stringwerk is prett...
