Re: Reason's "Hidden" Effects

I like that video. Here are a few things that i regular use and are missing: The Echo * Limiter, Overdrive, Tube and so on * Frequency (pitch) Modulation * Auto-Bending The Pulverizer: * Has a FM and AM input on the backside ^^ Malström * Wave-Shaper * And some kind of stereo spread (not the best, ...

Re: Reason's "Hidden" Effects

One hidden effect I'm fond of is using the CF-101 Chorus/Flanger as a vibrato or pitch-destabilizer. Set feedback to 0, turn on Send mode, and make sure both the inputs and outputs are a stereo pair. Then use the LFO (or feed it any CV modulation you want) to control the pitch wobble. Nice tip! Goi...

Reason's "Hidden" Effects

Hey guys, wanted to share something that may be obvious for some of you, but I think a lot of us have ignored. There are a lot of effects hidden around Reason that initially seem like they can only be used in one way - for example the Rattler in Kong. However, there's usually a way to use patching t...

So I just realized you can change the number of clicks before Reason starts recording. Go to Options -> Precount Bars. This quick video explains it:

Re: (Electronica\PoohBear Style ) Poly Madness (video)

This is definitely a track with a solid vibe! I'd have liked the drums to come in a little sooner. It might also benefit from a melodic hook in addition to the arpeggios.

Love it. Great vocal take, and the samples are super low and gritty. Maybe there's a bit too much low end rumble on the kick.

Re: Help? resized midi notes when resizing region

Holding control rescales everything, so it can also change your curves elsewhere in the track, i.e. it could make fade ins faster. A slightly more complete fix is to double click on the track and edit the underlying data to fit.

Stranger Things Style Album

So with Halloween coming up, I just released a synthwave album inspired by folks like Jean-Michel Jarre and the guys behind the Stranger Things soundtrack. It was recorded entirely in Reason, and use a lot of the Skrock synths and the Analog Machine Komplete VST. Would love to hear your thoughts! Yo...

Re: Question about delay compensation / parallel processing

It works most of the time, but I've also encountered some circumstances where the delay compensation doesn't work right when I've had different effects on the left and right channels summer back together. You definitely need to use your ears to make sure that it's doing its job.

Re: How to get that Lo-Fi Sound

Haven't checked out Dusty Brown. Being added to a playlist now. Audomatic can do part of this, but the big takeaway I have for getting lo-fi sounds is that you have to both make the sample sound lo-fi AND make the sampler introduce some distortion. Most of the old skool songs we love were made on sh...

How to get that Lo-Fi Sound

I'm a huge fan of Tycho (you guys should check out Dive if you haven't heard it yet) and also old skool hip hop, so I really have been trying to figure out how to get lo-fi sounding tracks for a while. I think I've finally cracked it. Every sample is going to be different, but it involves lot of tim...

A simple sidechain technique for killer groove

A lot of folks are familiar with sidechain compression, where you use one sound source to duck the volume of a second sound source. Taking this to the next level, and create reverbs, pads, and synths that really breath rhythmically is super easy in Reason. Instead of having an actual track in the so...

Re: What's the best way to get a warm sound in Reason using Reason effects?

I don't think there's a magic bullet to "warmth" unfortunately. But it's totally achievable. It's about being strategic and not trying to cover everything in a warm blanket, but just the most jarring parts. The cheapest way to do it is to add just a few percents of the Softube saturation knob to eac...

Re: Reason Sounds Sound Dated

3 quick points. First, if you're doing most genres of hip hop, they're classics that you're trying to emulate are all sample based. The trick to making your tracks sound fresh involves re-sampling your midi tracks, throwing a bunch of "dust" on them and then manipulating them as samples, not notes. ...

Re: Learning Reason's back wiring? Any good way?

Also if you're trying to learn about CVs, it may be easier in the beginning to use the Combinator and run the CV through it. The benefits of this are that you actually program in what the CV is doing which helps reinforce the learning. Moreover, when you use the combinator to do it, the knobs become...

Re: Reason 9 and NI Komplete 11

You can also use Reason 9's external midi instrument to control Komplete and then send Komplete's audio into Reason and record it. This maybe slightly more stable than the 2 DAW solution, but there will be a *slight* sound degredation as gets converted. On the plus side, if you have any outboard har...

Re: Strategies for beating complexity?

Great tips. I've got a few to add: * I create mix channels for all my send effects and route them to a master send effects bus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7WioPzKFwo&t=191s) * I keep all my busses together on the right side of the mixer. This prevents clutter while doing detail mixing and allo...

Re: Saturation on individual instruments

You can always induce delay on the original track by patching in the same effects used on the parallel track, but just turning them all the way down. E.g. you would use a compressor on both, but the original track would have a threshold set so that it doesn't trigger, or the Softube saturation knob ...
