Re: RME Babyface Pro or UAD Apollo Twin USB for Windows?
I bought the UAD Apollo Twin USB when it was released a few years ago and have used it with several DAWs including Reason. I really liked it in the beginning but I regret that purchase now. Pros: - The hardware feels very robust. - The pre-amp is great sounding. - The included plugins sound excellen...

Re: Your Upgrade History?
I was already using Cubase when a friend showed me Rebirth. It looked very fun but I didn't think it was for me since I'm mainly a rock guy and record a lot of guitars. But when Reason 2.5 was released I got it just to play around with since it looked so fun and had some great synths and effects. Mo...

Re: What does RS have to do to get them out this hole? [Top 5]
The only way they can regain my full confidence is by restoring Suite and Intro. Look, Microsoft got a lot of flak recently when they tried to mess with their XBox subscription fees. "The internet" voiced their anger and concern. MS decided that it wasn't such a good idea after all and decided not t...

Re: Reason updates (11.3.7 / 11.3.8) and Reason+
I don't have a problem with them adding an optional subscription, but I do have a problem with them removing Suite (and Intro). It feels like they copied Abletons naming scheme with Intro, Standard and Suite to lure us into thinking that there would be a higher tier where we'd get all their in-house...

Re: R.I.P. MusicTech magazine (print version)
Paper magazines have their magic, but I've switched to reading magazines on my iPad with a Readly subscription nowadays, it's just more convenient. It's a bit like Spotify for magazines and they do have MusicTech there. They don't have everything though and some of the magazines miss features (e.g. ...

Re: Does the performance of reason benefit with audio interfaces with built in DSP?
Has there ever been any attempt to create a common platform for DSP cards? Like graphics cards had OpenGL? There is an attempt from ROLI and JUCE that's been in development for a while. It's interesting but I'm doubtful if they'll succeed in convincing the industry at large. It's a bit like OpenGL ...

Re: Do u use “blocks” in Reason?
I love the block feature and use it in almost all songs I do in Reason. Usually only 3-4 blocks per song; verse, pre-chorus, chorus and sometime a hook or interlude block. Each block has the "full fat" version of the section. When I lay out the arrangement of the song in the sequencer I mute tracks ...

Re: Reason VST3 and Linux
So, nobody here affiliated with Reason Studios or just a tech-savvy person to tell us an approximate cost of software portation to linux? Is it thousands, tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars? I guess it's easily in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Maybe 6-12 months salary for an engineer ...

Re: Apollo twin, reason and windows crackling.
Never use ASIO4ALL if you can avoid it. It's not a replacement for proper ASIO drivers. It's just a wrapper on top of WDM drivers. Universal Audio happen to have pretty bad WDM drivers. I also have an Apollo Twin, you'll lose access to the Console software, the unison PreAmps and you'll get worse la...

Re: Music Radar best DAW poll 2019
I would have thought the demographic here is quite young, but there are some interesting anomalies. I'm very surprised to see Cubase so high and I'm astounded to see (hip and trendy) Ableton at the bottom. Also (and I might be wrong), I would have imagined that a high proportion of this demographic...

Re: MusicRadar review of Reason 11
But the users who buy the Rack Plugin, will they buy more stuff from RS, 1yr from now, 3yrs from now? After maybe buying some CV devices, what else would they buy? I think those users will treat Reason just like they treat NI Komplete or Arturia V Collection today. Maybe skip a version or two but u...

Re: Bluetooth headphones
I don't think using Bluetooth would affect the range of frequencies you hear. It's digital, so if it's in the 1's and 0's on your laptop, it will be in the headphones. Bluetooth audio is usually compressed with a lossy codec. Just like with mp3 you'll loose a bit of the high frequencies in that cas...

I use Harrison MixBus for this. http://www.harrisonconsoles.com/mixbus/mixbus5-live-manual/1/en/topic/polarity-maximizer If I'm mixing a rock song or something that has a multi miced acoustic drum kit then I just drag in the raw tracks into Harrison, select a section of the song where all the drums ...

Re: WHY are you thinking of changing DAW? (if you are)
You mean it is per se a better summing or would it be replicatable if using same saturation plug on all channels in Reason? It shouldn't affect summing per se, it's more like if you put the Harrison 32C channel strip on every mix channel in Reason and used that instead of the built in SSL 9000K emu...

Re: what are the best other DAWs to consider?
Id love to know active user base figures for all the big players.. I guess Ableton would win but whats the rest got? It depends whether you mean legal users or all users. Live is one of the most pirated DAWs out there! If you discount the dodgy users you'll probably find that the biggest DAWs are t...

Re: Announcing Reason 11
I think this is the best thing that's ever happened to Reason. A dream come true for me. I've wanted this ever since I got Reason 2.5 in addition to my Cubase VST 5.0 back in the day. Allowing FL Studio to work as a VST inside other DAWs didn't kill FL Studio, it just made it stronger. Same thing wi...

Re: Compared to "pro" DAWs, what is missing?
Things that Cubase has that I wish Reason had: 1) MIDI takes / comp. 2) MPE support. 3) Good folder and hide track support both in sequencer and mixer. 4) Separate audio files instead of baked into the project file. 5) Shared or Unique copies of midi clips. As for why I still use Reason? I have used...

Re: Combining the power of 2 computers for Reason
That's a bummer... Yet 3D animation studios use special CPU-farms. Why not for audio... One word: Latency Technically you can quite easily get down to single digit millisecond latency with a bandwidth enough to send audio between computers on a local network. Stable clock between computers is anoth...
