Wether you're sidechaining to a kick or any other signal, the priciple remains the same. So take any of these videos you`ve mentioned, and apply this technique to any channel you want to duck by the vocals.

This never ending "they don't listen blah...." is really tiresome, to say the least.

Did you take a look at the back of the synths in question? IIRC Antidote for example has its PB settings on the back.

Backward compatibility is a big part of the Ph/RS agenda. So I can't imagine any files or presets were removed. There must be something else going wrong.
