Re: Using a controller fader to sweep notes?

Oops maybe in my drunken stupor I mixed up scales with octaves. Well you can define the "scale" in the PSQ quantizer as well and then sweep through octaves. There is also an "offset" knob in PSQ but this might not be theoretically correct to what is trying to be accomplished. Maybe a solution ...

Sure theres many ways to generate "tuned" CV but wasn't the request that the source for the sweep is a knob or fader?
The PSQ has a knob literally called "range" that can sweep through octaves.

Re: Using a controller fader to sweep notes

Sure, any of the CV tuning REs will do.Just route a knobs CV signal through one of them and then connect it as note CV to some instrument. Make sure you also generate a gate signal somehow. CV Tuner is just a tuner but a sweep can be done in conjunction with other devices in the chain. I'd recommen...

Re: Thousand Hours...

As you mentioned being an electronic musician you have to wear different hats and you have to look at the bigger picture and for me that's so much more fun. Fun...sure...but also very technically "left brain" at times. Sometimes I envy the guy at the bus stop playing saxophone or the beach bum stru...

Re: Thousand Hours...

The truth is everytime i post a song i get a bit down. It's a small loss. I love letting them go but forever wonder whether I'll find pleasure in making the next one. I don't feel down when I post a song because I'm still riding the creative high and I usually have fun with a few beers. The comedow...

Re: Thousand Hours...

I've always wondered if each aspect of music production should be 10k hours instead of lumping everything into a 10k time period. An interesting thing to note about electronic music production is you're pushed into wearing different hats. Tritone's list would amount to 90k hours. Knowledge...

Re: Thousand Hours...

Agreed. You need to push out side of your own boxes a bit. But then it depends. There's something to be said for doing one thing very very well. Even if it's preset hiphop nnxt loops i guess. True. There is composition, arrangement and mixing theory that I imagine can progress over time. Reason mas...

Re: Thousand Hours...

There's a little misconception with that 10k rule with people thinking they progress just because they spend a lot of time doing something. For example, if somebody spends thousands of hours making hip hop beats with NN-XT Combinator patches, they're not going to be very masterful IMHO. I would even...

Re: Telling a story with a song (without vocals)

I tend to go with an idea, vibe, theme, experience, etc. and then it is up to the listener to create their own story. I think we should all want listeners to be engaged as opposed to having them sit there like a rotten potato mindlessly consuming television. Television is the medium to be in if you ...

Re: Who is your favourite Reasontalk poster?

On the subject of the old PUF - Lunesis was a personal favorite. I enjoyed chatting with him and sharing musical ideas. I wonder how he's doing but I get the feeling like he's moved on from this rabbit hole which is a shame because his music was top notch. Maybe he still lurks and can see that peopl...

+1 Nekujak

Every musical style has its own characteristics. Same reason why dissonance is so prevalent in my preference of techno. :D

Re: How many songs did you finish in 2017?

I easily hit 60 tracks this year which puts me in the clear for an average of one track per week. I work only 32 hours per week at my job with no children or social obligations so one track per week is an easy target for me. I spend around 12 hours per track in one session from dawn till dusk. I hav...

Re: Q: What is the point of the CPU Limit option in Prefs?

It is nice to have options. I had it set to 100% for the longest time, to the point of forgetting about the usage, and it scared the :poop: out of me when my system unexpectedly shut down while doing video.

Re: Q: What is the point of the CPU Limit option in Prefs?

People that know their hardware might not want the CPU to heat as much as it does when running 100% because the fan is too noisy, or even worse, the fan isn't powerful enough to cool the CPU at 100%. This happened to me during a couple sessions last week as I was also running some video software. M...

Re: When is it time to end a track?

Every project is like a bowel movement for me and I try to pass regular bowel movements in a timely manner. I aim to be as efficient as possible so I can pass a movement at any time or any place. I do not think too much about the movement as it happens although I might observe with a detached perspe...

Re: What's the weirdest/best tricks you've learned over the years of making music?

It probably isn't too weird in the big scheme of things, especially in this community, but I'm going to say randomized sequences that are tuned with control voltage. They called me Ace back in my high school hip hop days but I was just barely starting to tumble down the rabbit hole.

Nice to know you are still doing your thing. I really enjoyed this piece and it is something I would enjoy in my own free time listening. I only have one nit-picky criticism. That second syllable in the word "Fallen" feels awkward to me as you bend the word and my mind wants the word to flow more na...
