Re: Optimizing Reason 12 for playing live
Self containing samples doesn’t change performance. Just saves the samples along with the reason file. Reason still loads samples into ram, sounds like you may be exceeding what your ram is capable of. Ah right, thanks for the clarification. So if the samples are self-contained or not, in both case...

Re: Optimizing Reason 12 for playing live
Can I jump on this old thread since I just have one specific question that was asked above? - For live performance is it better to self-contain all samples or not? Does anyone know the answer to this? I use Reason in a live setting with a midi controller and I manipulate delays which is probably har...

Re: Still a newbie, need lots of help
Music making via Midi has come a long way in 30 years so you may not need as much knowledge as you think you do! Once you have your hardware set up in Reason*, that's all you need. After that, as long as you're using the Reason devices, you don't need to worry about midi. It's basically automatic, g...

Re: Shuffle vs Swing / Printing Groove?
As far as I know you can only apply the groove after you've recorded it.
I haven't used it extensively but it sees to me the ReGroove is fairly limited. For example the dial only applies shuffle to 16th note divisions.
Shuffle is swing in Reason, to answer your other question.

Re: Using 2 kboards in r4?
It makes sense that the Midi Inputs would have the same name. This is coming from the Windows OS I assume. (On my Reason 4 the drop down menus I see are "In Port" and "Out Port") What doesn't make sense is that Reason doesn't respond to the 2 different ports as separate instruments. Sounds like a bu...

Re: Using 2 kboards in r4?
Are you on a Mac or PC? I'd forgotten I do have Reason 4 still loaded on a Win 10 computer and I added 2 different USB controllers (not the same model). In Preferences, I added them manually and called them the same thing. In other words, in the drop down menu I selected the same make and model and ...

Re: Using 2 kboards in r4?
Just add the second one manually. Give it a different name. Once the computer (Mac or Windows?) recognises the keyboard, and you say it's working in Live, then it shouldn't be a problem. If you're still having a problem, select a generic manufacturer and go from there. Use a completely different nam...

Re: Crossfading audio samples
Someone might correct me on this but clips work in such a way that crossfades are not allowed. You have to put them on separate lanes or tracks and use the clip fade handle or use volume automation. Don't worry about comp lanes although you can do it that way too. Just use a new audio track or 'dub'...

Ah good to know, thankschimp_spanner wrote: ↑26 May 2020You can do this without cutting! With the razor tool selected, hold option (or I guess ctrl on PC) until you see a little plus icon next to the cursor. Now you can click and drag to make a copy of just that region of the audio.

You have to cut the area to make a new clip. Use the 'razor' tool. (R on keyboard) and chop up the audio.

Re: Looking for a very small-footprint controller keyboard
I use the AKAI MPK Mini as a secondary keyboard for quick ideas, which fits nicely on my desktop. The keys aren't amazing but work as a starting point and having access to knobs, pads and buttons is invaluable, I reckon. Especially if you're using Reason devices like Octo Rex and Kong not to mention...

Is Drum Sequencer new in Reason 11? Bit of a tricky one for internet searches.
I've used Dual Arpeggio a couple of times, I think, but the players generally get left un-used by me. So far anyway.

Re: What can you NOT undo in Reason?
I often think there are too many things that fall into the undo category.
Particularly mute, solo, panning. They're not particularly helpful.
Sometimes I'm pressing Command-Z a dozen times before I get to to the vital stuff!

Re: How to find kick's key in Reason?
That DeCoda is pretty cool. I downloaded the demo, not using it for kicks but I like the way it automatically tunes tracks that are in between keys and very easy to slow stuff down, change keys and isolate parts.
Nice tip!

Re: How to find kick's key in Reason?
Open the editor window of NN-XT, load your bass drum sample into it, right click on your sample, click "Set Root Notes from Pitch Detection". That will probably solve your problem. That method works well. I never used that before, nice one. Another way is temporarily transpose the kick up an octave...

Re: Reminder..SAVE YOUR WORK and BACK UP FILES
I second this! I had an issue recently where my computer went to sleep and I hadn't saved the file and I lost that entire project (not Reason). It wasn't a huge amount of work so I was lucky but it did make me re-assess my whole set up and get my backup system working in a much more robust manner. T...

Re: Reason 9.5 bug?
Hmm, that is an odd one. Have you tried a re-install of Reason? I'm assuming this is not happening with any other programs on this laptop? One thing you could try is download a demo of version Reason 10 or 11 (maybe only 11 is available now) and see if you get the same thing on this computer. If it ...

The actual graphic of the piano key you hit disappears? I can't imagine that's a common bug, I've never heard of that before. Are you running any other program in the background or using a VST when it happens? I've noticed with other programs (not Reason) occasionally , if there is a GUI running in ...

The highest audio quality is 320 mp3. This website rips the audio and turn it into a mp3 file very quick and easy. Faster than sampling for me

Re: How do you get YouTube audio into Reason? (on a Mac)
I might be a little out of date with this but I use Soundflower. It's a free app that shows up as an input/ output in the Mac 'Sound' System Preferences. I've never used it with Reason though so it may not be compatible.

You did say there is a small $$ amount but if they are promising 'credit' via IMDB, that's really nothing to do with them.
That's probably as a valuable as a Facebook page and you can set that up yourself for free.

Re: Need advice on UNPAID work for client...credits instead.
If you've done any work on a film or tv show that gets an official release, your name will appear on IMDB. At least that's my understanding of it. If clients are asking you, they are probably curious as to your experience in the commercial film/ tv world. It's basically a database of screen credits....

Re: Is there a shortcut to move between channels in the sequencer ?
I've just realised that clicking over on the left is not necessary at all. Shift + Tab always toggles between edit and regular sequencer view. So say you're editing one midi clip. Shift +Tab to go back to sequencer mode, arrow down/up to next clip and hit Shift+Tab to edit. This works for audio and ...
