In other words can each slot occupy their own MID lane?
If not is there a workaround other than another the required amount of mimics?

I've had that feeling before with the metronome of Reason. I've also recorded the metronome in Reason as a sample so I can put it into Redrum and have it play through out a song, I then automated the level so it never fully stood out but it kept the vibe of the song by still being there in the back...

Robotic Bean has a Metronome Rack Extension which includes the Reason click (among others). You could use this just like another instrument.
