I assume they avoid it mostly because of a possible huge increase in support (meaning higher costs) as people trade their stuff back and forth and things go wrong/people try to scam/etc... Reason 7 is a very good version to be at and if you wait for Reason 9 before you update, then this is a very good price to get into reason. (Noticed another for sale post in this forum so it seemed to be the right place for it).
