Re: (Electronic / Analog style) - Work in progress

I'm always looking for themes/ideas that could turn into bigger musical projects. This is one potential direction. Using more analog styled synths like Viking 1 and 2, Legend, Complex-1, Red70, Transcendent 2000. That kind of thing. Still haven't decided yet. If nothing else I'm sure I'll finish th...

Re: AI powered VSTs?

I'm a fan of the Sonible mixing and mastering plugins. They work well in Reason.

Some good bundles, with the picks being Smart:EQ 4, Smart:Limit and Smart:Comp 2.

I also use True:Balance but I don't think there's any real AI in that one.

Very cool. I concur with the other posters, it sounds uplifting and captures the 80s synthpop vibe really well.

Re: “Why Modern Digital Synthesis Is More Analog Than Analog” - Mark Barton

Interesting and thought provoking video - while it started off about whether digital or analog had the higher resolution (which was interesting), it ended up more about whether in-the-box software provided the vehicle for a musician to feel at one with the instrument and able to express themselves c...

What are your goals?
Mine after a long self-research: Danceable/groovy techno-pop for the "9th floor" maybe. :puf_bigsmile:
Not sure what the 9th floor is but it sounds like a great goal! :)

Re: You know what the whole problem is nowadays about making music?

I think it's important to set goals. If it's aimless then the challenge goes, procrastination sets in etc. My goals in music is to create an emotional reaction (other than "turn it off" :) ), to tell a story, to foster nostalgia and to celebrate synthesizers!. And the process of doing so is catharti...

Re: (electronic) String Theory

The resulting stereo effect is quite nice. But, a lot of music these days is listened in mono, as smartphones and smart speakers are all mono. I agree and think the bass sounds super cool as is, and therefore would leave it as is. What I mean, bass response on an iPhone or smart speaker isn’t stron...

Re: (electronic) String Theory

I tried out Bassline Pro which is supposed to have a 'preserve in mono' feature, but it made no perceptible improvement :) If you mean BassLane (that others mentioned), that and similar tools just sum to mono below the set frequency. Reason's own Stereo Imager has that same functionality. However, ...

Re: (electronic) String Theory

Nice track. There's a hint of Kraftwerk's Computer World in there, especially the first part. The second part sounds more early nineties than eighties to me, but in a good way. Listening in mono, the bass does indeed become a bit warble-y. looked at phase correction plugins etc but they all seem to...

Re: (electronic) String Theory

Nice song is this kinda like synth wave (I am terrible with genres). It has a 80's feel to me thinking of like Depeche mode and reminds me of what my brother would listen too when we were kids. Great nostalgia for me. For the phase issue you mention do you have any control over the phase position o...

This is very cool. Great sound design, movement and heaps of interesting stuff going. I love the section with the clangy sounds ( Objekt ?) with the string pad in the background. Cool tension.

Re: How to recommend Reason Studios to your friend

To me it's 100% about inspiration: Having the tools that will inspire creativity firstly, and then inspire completion secondly. Reason has plenty of limitations and cons. Reason's superpower is that it is FUN. If adding Reason to his collection means your friend starts more new songs, then even if t...

(electronic) String Theory

I wanted to create a track with more drums than my usual style, and kinda rediscovered how cool the drum supply is that is standard in Reason 12 :) Reaper DAW with lots of RRP plugins, mainly RRP effects using Echobode (love that device), Synchronous, Alligator, Kuassa EQs, etc. Most synths are hard...

Re: Almost all my songs are audibly clipping, what am I missing?

To the first, avoid frequency build up. Seriously, IF that’s what is happening then that is the best solution. I'm a huge fan of Trackspacer. Came across it when watching a video from Éric_Mouquet of Deep Forest and how he manages to get great clarity from his dense mixes with layers of pads etc. R...

It is an amazing synth with well designed patches. the II UI was pretty bad. the III interface is still not as good as many but much better. The UI can be overlooked though for the amazing sound.

Re: Rack Extension vs VST plug-in prices

I like having both the RE and the VST, so the crossgrade was fantastic (thankyou). I use Reason standalone (where RE is much nicer to use than VST), and Reason Rack inside Reaper (where workflow is faster to drop in the VST). It's nice to have the same great synths in both formats and with virtually...

Yeah good points @Loque. I logged a ticket and RS came back with: > On Windows computers Reason uses both Performance and Efficiency cores. There's a knowledgebase article on RS website that says for Apple M1, Reason can prioritise to use the M1 performance cores, but it's unclear whether that is al...

Performance & Efficiency cores & Reason

I'm looking at PC upgrade and learning how the newer Intel CPU generations have some performance cores and some efficiency cores. (P + E) From what I understand so far, it really needs Windows 11 which has more advanced CPU scheduler to make the decision on which core to assign workloads. Clearly wo...

Windows PC hardware upgrade

Hi everyone I'm looking to replace the internals of my old i7-2600k based PC. Planning to move to 12th or 13th gen i7, with 32GB RAM. Very keen for any advice for PC builders here who may have thoughts on motherboards, or other ideas so I really get the best audio workstation experience. I'll also b...
