Re: (soundtrack) Ascension

Nice buildup from thin intro sound to full body. I like the pan modulation on the pad from 1:38. (I pan modulated the pad for the first time in my recent song, and wondering why I've always kept that static before) Solid bass sound and dark enough for the right kind of movie to fit it with, it'd ma...

Re: A synth is a synth (pretty much)?

The technical design and specifications of a synth are only part of the story. The user experience is a big part of what attracts us to a synthesizer. That user experience includes many obvious and some subconscious things. It's not about saw and square waves on an oscilloscope, it's about all the t...

(soundtrack) Ascension

Hi everyone

I'm not entirely sure where I was going with this track, but I was trying to get a darker, more industrial sound than my usual comfort zone, well after a couple of minutes in anyway!

cheers!

I know you said Pads only but hands down I think the Legend by Synapse Audio is the greatest thing ever you could get it in VST or RE.
I agree. The Legend is absolutely incredible!

I like it too! Although it doesn't get as much use since Jiggery Pokery Chennile is so good.

Re: Selig Gain

When I want to automate a track's volume / level, I insert a Selig Gain and automate the slider.

That keeps the SSL channel sliders completely free for overall track mixing.

Re: Synapse phasers advice

IMO, Model 90 shines above the others. I don't know why, but it's the only phaser I reach for now.
To me it sounds a bit less "comby" and "metalic" and a bit smoother. Reminds me of the Smallstone.

Re: Synapse Fat Space

I agree this is a reverb all it's own. In the past I would use an AMS reverb (NonLin2) to get a similar effect, and later an algorithm in the Lexicon 480 could achieve this effect more like what Fat Space does. So for me, it fills a big gap in the reverb world that I've not had access to for some t...

Re: Synapse Fat Space

I find fat space really good for creating thick dense reverbs and it is really quick to set the decay curve. I especially like using it on drums.

Complementary to Deep Reverb.

I GOT IT! The Boutique D-05 I've studied it all night long, and it also was an ex demo at discounted price... Now I got one standalone editor for windows and the whole BobbyBlues patchbanks… Its LA engine stands for Linear Synthesizer, partials, and has the dual synth/sampler engine as Vecto and Zv...

Re: Best Roland d50/05 emu Linear Synth in Reason?

I think Vecto from RP comes close in character. At least that's my feeling when I play Vecto. Judge for your self ;) https://shop.propellerheads.se/rack-extension/vecto-instrument/ P. I completely agree. Vecto is almost like a blend between a Roland D50/LA synth, and a Korg Wavestation. In no way a...

Re: Repro-5 beta is out! (U-He Prophet 5 VA)

Hello, soft synth luvvers! Dan Worrall has just put out a 5-part tutorial video series on Repro 5. It's blowing my mind a bit - lots to get my head around in what I thought was a nice simple "analogue" synth. But there are some very interesting sounds among the sound-design deep-diving here! Much o...

Same here.

I used Logic since it was C-Lab Creator on the Atari STe, then moved to Windows PC when it became Emagic Logic. Great software and was pretty disappointed when they dropped Windows PC support!

Re: So I Bought An Old Tape Deck And I'm Going To Run My Stuff Through It

Very cool!

I can't remember who it was who used to rattle on about SoundCloud making every track sound the same, but if that's true, you can always use SC to restore your recording if you're not happy with your tape results :)

Really cool track. I like the way you have a bit more of an instrumental into for this one before progressively introducing your vocals.

I also like the theme. That double slit experiment blows my mind! :)

Re: Looking for Pad VST plugins

There are a lot of different types of pads, so it really depends on what type of sound you like and what you want to use it for. If you like modern sounds, there is a heap of great pads out of the box with Reason. If you like more "subtractive" synth sounds like vintage analog, then suggest Bitley W...
