Updates aren't really 'updates' (they aren't patches that modify/update an existing install) - they are full versions of the (new/updated) program that completely replace the existing version - so you don't need a previous version to install/run them.

There are two upgrades to Reason. The one you quoted for 130 is for upgrading from a previous version of full Reason to the current version. That upgrade will not work for Essentials.
