Re: JPS Harmonic Synthesizer in the shop. $79 US

On a modern, post-2016 desktop (e..g. my old 1800X or currently got a 3800X), it wouldn't be running more than about 3-4% idle and that wouldn't be enough to flicker the first DSP bar. And if that number sounds high, remember it's a 32-osc synthesizer, with osc sync, and per-voice filters. Then you...

Re: Multi core audio rendering with M1

These last two replies are really related. How much multi-core rendering helps depends on if you're projects are tall or wide. Audio is processed serially in that one effect inserted before another has to finish rendering before the next one can even start. Send effects can't be sent to until everyt...

Re: Some VSTs have problems at higher buffer size?

In general, for best performance, buffer sizes should be kept to powers of 2 (e.g. 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, and 2048), because of how memory is accessed in by the CPU. 2048 is also the largest buffer size offered by many interfaces. It may be that 3072 really is too large, or is unaligned, and is tr...

Re: Old video game music

My MS-34 is based on the SN76489, which was used in the Sega Master System (MS = Master System & 7+6+4+8+9=34), and many older arcade games. While it can be played like a multi-oscillator instrument from one sequencer lane. When a game developer was programming this sound chip, they'd be sending dif...

Re: Question for mastering an album via online AI mastering

I'd do it a bit differently these days. Each track would be pre-masters (mixed as well as I could) and then in the mastering project I'd have all the mastering plugins - probably with some EQ and light compression on each track, and a limiter and metering on the master bus. Doing this I feel would ...

Re: No audio inputs available

Out of nowhere, i can't select any audio inputs? I got Reason 10 and just updated the driver cause i saw that there's an update for my Steinberg UR 22mk2 (february 3/2022). Are you use ASIO or Windows Audio (DX or MME) inside of Reason? What often happens in Windows, when not using ASIO, is after a...

Re: Question for mastering an album via online AI mastering

Did you use just one audio track and overlap the songs to create the cross-fades, or did you put each song on a different audio track for each song? It can definitely be done, either way in fact, just it isn't as easy or as obvious (when using the one track per song) to create the cross-fade points...

Re: Question for mastering an album via online AI mastering

Indeed, but that style of album is always a bit tricky since it only ever sounds 100% "right" if played top to bottom. Probably why Prince did the one song ID trick on LoveSexy… ;) In those cases I would do the same thing I used to do in Pro Tools, using Blocks in Reason instead of Markers in Pro T...

To the first ‘problem’, click on song/clip, “Shift - Z” To the second, click on clip/song, “command - L”, export loop. I don’t have any issue not being able to zoom out to see the entire album sequence, not sure what functionality is lost by not being able to do this? The first one, great. I missed...

Re: Question for mastering an album via online AI mastering

I was wondering before if exporting files out of reason and reimporting and then exporting again losses any quality? As long as you're not changing bit-depths or sampling rates down and up between exports and imports you aren't losing anything. A few things to keep in mind: Do your initial export a...

Re: Question for mastering an album via online AI mastering

I also I get the feeling this maybe isn't something that Reason is designed to really handle properly, as it seems kind of difficult to compare different tracks very easily. The Ozone stand alone program does allow you to switch back and forth sort of quickly, so you can sort of compare, but then, ...

Re: How is R12 with M1X chips? [mac]

Not sure what you mean by ”ARM-Only VSTs”, but there are several that are available as universal binaries now (both Intel and ARM). For example I tried the new ARM version of Ableton Live 11.1, and all my Arturia V Collection VST3’s showed up. I mean ones that are built without the Intel binary dat...

Re: How is R12 with M1X chips? [mac]

Reason 12 really flies on my M1 Max with 32GB RAM. Heck, it runs in Rosetta on my M1 Mini with 16GB of RAM just fine. Rosetta 2 is really good, it provides basically native performance (at the cost of some storage for caching the recompiled ARM image). The only issue is plug-ins running in Rosetta ...

Re: Moving Rack Extensions to External SSD?

Rack Extensions came out in 2012 while Reason came out in 2000. The use of external hard drives was already pretty common by the time I started using Reason in 2002, so that's 10 years. It's not even external drives. PCs have supported multiple hard drives since before Windows even existed. In 1991...

No, I'm talking about the fact that at 96k you can filter before going into any plugins that will alias :-) Correct. And/or low-pass after the effect creating the harmonics, even if they have aliased down from 48k. As long as the reflected (in)harmonics don't reach 24k, you can remove them pretty e...

So why use microtonal scales and old temperaments when your listeners are probably going to find it dissonant? Re: VST 2 will gradually be discontinued

Yes I know that, I'm only talking about other DAWs. Why would they voluntarily drop compatibility with maybe discontinued VST2 plugins that some users still want to use? Because the DAWs are controlled by Steinberg, and they're trying to force developers to make VST3 versions of their plugins. As f...

Re: Reason Studios updates their roadmap (November 17, 2021)

I wonder if this is really a flaw though. It’s very much possible to install a rack device IRL with just the front panel. Some don’t have a back panel for rack ears at all. I would say it IS a flaw because it implies the BACK of the rack rails are covered by the device, which is never done in the r...

Re: VST 2 will gradually be discontinued

I presume that Steinberg could also withdraw the VST2 licence from third parties like RS and all the other DAW companies if they wanted to but simply dropping VST2 support in the Steinberg products might be enough to persuade VST vendors to switch to VST3. They can't withdraw it: Yeah, they can't w...

We are currently testing a new Auto-scale implementation in the Reason beta. Since all VSTs behave differently with Windows scaling we decided it's better to have an optio...
