Re: (Synthpop) Enough is Enough (Version 2.0)

Its not my type of music, but it sounds good. Just the bass is a bit too much upfront imo. Thanks for listening. You're not alone in this opinion... I think you have lost your way with version 2... :( You added way too many elements and have crushed your vocal space and drum space especially using ...

(Synthpop) Enough is Enough (Version 2.0)

Hi everyone, We finished a song called Enough is Enough a while ago. Patrick (aka Bitley) suggested we make a few changes to improve the song and make it more exciting. We took his constructive criticism to heart and re-worked the songs. The changes are: 1. increased tempo from 125 BPM to 132 BPM 2....

Re: (Organic Indie Pop) Port Streets debut EP

Not sure if I should rejoice or cry at "[t]his could have been a huge EP 30 years ago." :) Sorry if that came out wrong! I meant people are fickle and only really like what is presented to them as "modern". The music is stellar and you could definatley build a real following. And I hope you do! It'...

Re: (Organic Indie Pop) Port Streets debut EP

This is just fantastic stuff... reminds me so much of the music I listened to on LIVE 105 as a teenager in the late 80s/early 90s, and then again on KROQ as a young man. This could have been a huge EP 30 years ago. I'm hearing Trashcan Sinatras, James, a bit of the softer side of Material Issue, the...

Re: (DnB) RTFX - Hellz Wind

So cool to hear this kind of music. My main suggestion is to try to make the track go somewhere. It repeats the same notes over and over (A -> C -> B -> D (or Bb)) and it isn't even that strong a progression. I think that might be what RNW was getting at when he said childish. It might be better to ...

Re: (80's synth-pop) Depeche Mode cover - Fly on a Windscreen

This sounds really nice. I love the bass and the synths. Don't love the drums, I feel they are too light-weight and flighty for such a heavy song. Also agree you could consider giving your vocals a change. Dave Gahan is a great singer now, but he wasn't so good in early days. And think of Ian Curtis...

Re: Synthwave, synthpop, new instrumental

I liked both of the tracks. Definitely nailed the synthwave genre (which always seemed so weird to me, like a nostalgic simulacrum of 80s music without actually sounding like any particular 80s music...) My favorite was The Game. I liked the energy, but I think I would prefer it to be more a journey...

Re: Classic Pop - End of the World

I'm liking this one a lot in terms of the songwriting. Also enjoying the instrumentation, it's refreshing for more acoustic or guitar oriented music to be heard (instead of electronic-heavy music like mine and most people's on here). I agree the mix could be improved (to my taste) BUT I would also s...

Re: (Soundtrack) Palais Matinee - album

Wow this is quite an impressive piece of work. I quite liked it and loved the atmosphere how you can really lose yourself in it. For me personally, it evokes memories of those old adventure games from the late 80s/early 90s with their epic soundtracks and (for the era) mindblowing visuals. In partic...

Re: (Synthpop) Starter Wife by Pacific Deep

Very good vocal and loved the synthesizers. The drums suited the song. So did the bass but I thought it could have more release at times and go deeper. A well worked song! Thank you for the feedback! I'll see if Raymond wants to play around with that. I noticed he modulated the release of the bass ...

I expected to hear nice music with nice vocals from you, and I got it, again...well done   I agree with Baylo, there is some Human League in this, and early Depeche as well. Thanks Jappe! I listened to the song in your signature and quite liked it! What does Triage mean in Swe...

Very cool. Reminiscent to me of Human League / early Depeche Mode. But what I really want to say was I love your avatar. Brings back happy memories of Music-X. :-) Thank you! We weren't going for Human League but I can totally hear it now. Believe it or not, I never used a tracker with my Amiga. I ...

(Synthpop) Starter Wife by Pacific Deep

It's been a while, but Raymond and I have made a new Pacific Deep track. It's called Starter Wife and it is a bit unusual compared to our usual stuff. In fact, it came about the same way as our very first collaboration did, years ago. Basically, I listened to one of Raymond's analog hardware synth i...

Re: (synthpop, synthwave) FHTH - Urban Noir

This is really, really good. Definitely a modern darkwave, futurepop vibe to it for me, more than synthwave. The song sounds modern, and not very 80s influenced. That bass is intense and your vocals are perfect for the genre.

Here's a new song from Pacific Deep called Indigo. About a love affair gone wrong. On this one we experimented with a lusher analog sound and a more spare arrangement. It's also the first time I (Carl) have ever used a suspended chord in a song so that was fun to try to figure out how to harmonize i...

I can't believe I missed this! One of my favorite songs of yours, and to my ears takes you more into the Scritti Polliti side of things.

Can you possibly list the patches in WBF you are using? I would love to listen to them alone to learn about how you put them in such great context.

Hey thanks you guys! This one was a lot of fun. It was the first "hardware only" song I had written in 20 years, and the first song I had written with someone else in the same room in 25 years! So a great experience. Made we want to get some hardware synths of my own! It was very cool to write a son...

Very 80s vibe on this one... reminds me also of the songwriting done in those days.... the sound of one hand clapping. The lyrics are excellent on this one.

Cool track! I especially like how manic it is (in a good way). I'm not sure I would call the genre Silly Rave though. Sounds to me like it starts out as classic sounding Drum N Bass and then all of the sudden about 45 seconds in becomes a lost Atari Teenage Riot track. Great job!

The song came out pretty well indeed, takes me back to the early 80s! Now I'm interested in what secret song writing techniques you learned :puf_bigsmile: Thanks! Not really much of a secret. I read a book about Max Martin and how he writes his songs. One of the things that interested me (among oth...
