How Did Reason Miss The Modular Boat So Badly

Interesting to note that even Reaktor, which could be considered one of the ultimate “modular” environments and an app that has been around as long as Reason, only very recently added a specific modular environment (Bocks). For Reason to enter this area they would have to do the same thing IMO, and ...

Re: Reason Design Video

Yea, nice video. Completely agree. But now....how to overcome the physical/skeumorphism limitations and go a step ahead again? I’ve been giving this a lot of thought. One way is to write a new application. Every so often the old apps just get too convoluted and far from their original vision to be ...

Re: Reason Design Video

Well done! And thanks to now living with a high level app designer who manages multiple design teams, I actually understand most of what is being said in this video (and get all the "in" jokes) - yay, design! Am interested in seeing what else this guy comes up with, very entertaining and informative...

Re: Seen this? Free refill :)

Now I can't get that song from the Mighty Boosh out of my head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAbkh4TMRqg Hadn't seen that one - somehow reminds me of this one, another comedy video with two guys, cheesy songs, and an appearance by a Mini Moog (@2:40 "you just stay at home and play synthesizers")...

Re: Semi modular Re?

For fun I’ve done some mockups in the past to see what this concept would look like. One issue I ran into was that the front panels will be somewhat restricted in size to accommodate the space for the jacks on the back (to keep a 1:1 relationship between the panels). This is because you need to lea...

Re: Sampling the Samplers....

One quality you won’t get (and one of my favorite things to do with vintage samplers) is the pitch interpolation when playing samples above/below root note. It’s typically something we try to avoid, by taking a few samples per octave. But if you’re going for a “sound”, it could be cool to include a...

Re: Reason Electric Bass - new RE from Props, 99EUR

I used to use the Reason Bass Refill on almost every production (rock, pop, Americana, etc.), but abruptly stopped when I replaced it with IK's amazing Modo Bass. But the PHead voucher offer for previous owners of the refill makes this a tempting proposition. There were several bass sounds that I r...

Re: Semi modular Re?

Somehow the cables on the back in Reason bother me less than in they do in Reaktor or Tassman. I think it's because the modules in Reason do more things, so you don't need to make as many connections on the back (or in the builder or editor view), so you don't need to remember as much. I like your ...

Re: Semi modular Re?

The thing that bothers me when using the Reason Rack as a modular synth is that the cables are on the back side. My suggestion for modular RE developers is to mirror the knobs on the back side of the module. I’ve heard this suggestion since REs were introduced, and still no one has done this. I hav...

Re: Sampling the Samplers....

One idea for the sweeping/detuned samples is to take 3-5 different samples and use the “alt” mode so that you can get the full random effect the original synths provide (really sounds fantastic IMO!). You can also provide versions with one sample per note for a key-trig effect (and to save space). ...

Selecting multiple faders and turning them up/down at the same time?

Funny thing is, this "feature" doesn't really need any changes to the GUI, devices, routing, etc. Just let us CTRL+click several faders and move the others along with the last we touched! It's the same thing with missing keyboard shortcuts for: changing grid snapping levels, muting/soloing tracks, ...

Sampling the Samplers....

You're right in thinking that to get the kind of saturation you want you have to intentionally saturate it. Sampling it as is won't give you the same exact sound. If you have a mac, grab Mainstage. It's $30 in the app store and contains an autosampler (originally from Redmantica). Because it's load...

Re: Random audio trivia of the day

Side note: Yes, this is true only IF you stick to low boost/cuts. But the more you boost/cut, the more the bandwidth becomes the same with either E or G modes. At max boost/cut, Q is identical for both modes. Sent from some crappy device using Tapatalk Sure, proportional vs constant Q Yes, and as i...

…This should work in Reason but only on “E” mode, as the G series EQ is really a broad brush....say a sword instead of a scalpel :-) Side note: Yes, this is true only IF you stick to low boost/cuts. Re: What features are REALLY necessary for Reason 11

Here's my thoughts. On each channel, you have go to track and go to rack buttons, so why not have a midi mute there as well? It can say [AUDIO] [AUDIO] [MUTE] [SOLO] [MIDI] [MIDI] [MUTE] [SOLO] I like that idea. On the mixer, have two smaller buttons with solo and mute for midi channel where applic...

editing slices, selecting next slice

Frequently when I'm editing a slice I want to edit another clip on the same track. I can't seem to figure out how to easily get to the next clip . Do I have to exit slice mode, select the other clip, and enter slice mode again? Which leads the another question, are there a keyboard shortcuts to ent...

Re: Selecting multiple faders and turning them up/down at the same time?

Hello all, Are there plans (yet) for this feature (or hopefully it's been added and I've just missed it)? It's a pretty simple feature that Reason lacks that every other DAW has. Last time I asked (couple years ago), I was told to just run things through a Bus and turn it down there, but that's a t...

Re: Hydlides rant about performance

Yesterday i realized the EQ (F2) drains quite alot of resources. I always have it open on one screen, but turning it off made all my stuttering projects play smooth again. No VST's involved tho. I've read about optimization and how closing combinators help reduce DSP load, just didn't occur to me t...

Re: New to Reason, Some Obvious features for players and sequencer

I find it far quicker to simply option/drag existing players (that have the settings I want) into new instruments. You don't have to open the browser and click on "Players" - just grab and go and everything is in the same key - make sense? :) Hmm.... I tried this and nothing happens? I don't usuall...

I bumbled into this vintage cold wave / minimal synth from 1982. The music is frantic and the singer is easy on the eyes. :-D Any one want to guess the hardware used in this video? https://youtu.be/6Ki2R9OieiY Guessing Korg MS-10 or MS-20. Cool band, can't believe I've never heard of them before! :)

Re: New to Reason, Some Obvious features for players and sequencer

But seriously global scales and chords- come on. At the very least when I drop a new one it shouldn't just default to C Major if I have 3 others already in Gb Minor- it gets in the way of my workflow. I find it far quicker to simply option/drag existing players (that have the settings I want) into ...
