Re: People who have Synapse GQ-7

So you don't like the MClass EQ's curves? :puf_bigsmile: Actually no, I don’t like the way the shelf works since you cannot smooth the response (the dip is alway present) as you can do with most other EQs. The parametric bands are fine, they just don’t have enough range (for all parameters) to be i...

Re: Reason 10 and Ozone 8

I always route my post-mix inserts (which generally consists of an EQ and a limiter these days) directly before the audio I/O - i.e. it goes from the Master Section output -> post-mix inserts -> audio output. That way, there is zero doubt in my mind that my post-mix effects will be the last thing t...

Re: Going stock

I have lot of questions but don't want to clog up this thread so the specs of a typical upload of yours would be very helpful! ... 24bit? Mastered? LUFS 23db? Dynamic range? ... thank you in advance! I would think this is the perfect thread to clog with all these questions. I’d be interested, in ad...

Re: Reason Slow Performance - when is optimisation coming?

@MattiasHG Please can you confirm that the 10.3 performance improvements are going to address RE performance degradation as well as fixing VST performance. I haven’t personally seen any obvious performance degradation across all the releases that support REs - what examples do you have and how have...

Re: People who have Synapse GQ-7

I “admitted” it from the start. If an EQ curve matches exactly then it’s exactly the same sound. And if the curves don’t match, it’s unlikely they will sound the same (depending no how different they are, of course). It’s all I’m saying. It’s simple science. Not trying to “fool” anyone so there’s no...

Re: Bipolar Knob Functioning (CV catastrophe)

Use Thor. Adress a rotary 2 times 100 to cvout in the mod matrix and a button one time -100 to the same cvout. Or just take a rotary from thor (or CV8x4 or any other rotary that give you 0-100) and connect it to CVA7 (free RE) and take the cv out as bipolar. Both ways works just fine. True, I guess...

Re: Do McDSP rack extensions (EQ / compressors) really work as they advertise?

OK, got home from the AES convention and had a chance to do a quick test of the three McDSP compressors (already did the EQs in another thread). Like the EQs (but more subtle), for two of the three compressors the frequency response is indeed "colored" to give each compressor a "sound". Note the ran...

If you c ompare the output as analyzed with a high resolution analyzer and they look the same, they are the same. Yes, I believe that. Yes, thats your caveat, "so many variables as to make the act of matching panel" - Nope. Should've stopped while you were ahead. Sorry... Selig.... Im not buying th...

Re: Do McDSP rack extensions (EQ / compressors) really work as they advertise?

... But I may have to stop by the McDSP booth and see if I can get any more “direct” response to this question! ;) Sadly, no McDSP at AES this year. :( It’s always interesting to see who DOES participate. For example FL studio has a tiny booth here, Avid is huge, but that’s pretty much ...

Re: People who have Synapse GQ-7

EQs are different and can SOUND different. Even when they look the same. If you compare the output as analyzed with a high resolution analyzer and they look the same, they are the same. Otherwise, there are so many variables as to make the act of matching panel settings or display curves irrelevant...

The files already matched to 0.1dB across the entire curve. As I said, if I display BOTH frequency plots at the same time, you only “see” one curve because they are THAT close! If you have changed anything they now don’t match “as well as possible”, which a quicik null test would prove if you don’t...

Re: Reason compact question about future features

I would say the “gold standard” in 2018 for iOS music creation apps is Korg Gadget, which is quite full featured for what it is. I’m sure there are others along these lines, and Reason Compact has build a ways to go to even be considered in the same league as these apps. And by that time, these apps...

Do McDSP rack extensions (EQ / compressors) really work as they advertise?

the McDSP compressors are 100% clean, no saturation. so only dynamic compression, nothing else. That seems to be the case too, but then if you read the description of their EQ and compressor REs you can read: "Vintage output staging colors tracks nicely" and "imparts a subtle warm tone change", whi...

Re: Do McDSP rack extensions (EQ / compressors) really work as they advertise?

OK, gonna go to the other side of the question here and say ALL compressors add color/harmonics. But first, the answer will depending on how you define “color”, which is generally considered to be any tonal change to the original sound. A compressor, by definition, changes the waveform. If you chang...

Re: Better to master mix or export to audio / master that?

Mastering a single is different for me than mastering an album. I prefer to master a single in the mix, because I don’t “master” to change the mix. I basically only do a little brick wall limiting to the master if it’s a single song. Nothing more is needed because if I feel I need EQ, I fix the mix....

Ok, I tested this comparison file and further-tweaked these to match as well as possible. I uploaded a reason save, where I boosted highs instead of the mids, as the highs are better for a comparison like this to really hear the difference. My own testing summary is that there's a difference - M-cl...

Re: Arturia Synclavier Update 2 with resynthesis

I gotta say, after working with the original this version is actually a HUGE improvement IMO. Back in the mid 1980s I took a 6 week class on the Synclave, and even during that class period there were two software updates - and each update changed the way the front panel worked. It was very confusing...

Re: Add plugin to multiple tracks at once

Might be, maybe it depends on the fx. In my experience it gets pretty muddy, for example if you use several reverbs, or distortion like devices on different channels. Well, as i already said, i dont need it, especially i dont need to add the same device to several channels at once - that is my poin...

Re: Add plugin to multiple tracks at once

I dont have that use case. I would use a bus or a send fx. That’s a different use case, with a different result for different situations. A bus or send FX would be would be POST channel, and would be applied to the bus/send “sum”. For example, non-linear processing such as compression or saturation...

Re: Add plugin to multiple tracks at once

Pro Tools has had this for years as a generic way to do things to single tracks, a selection of tracks, or all tracks by adding a key command - VERY handy. From PT Experts: Alt (Mac) Option (PC) - Applies the command to every track in items such as inputs and outputs. Or when applying a new insert o...

REW Room EQ Wizard Help needed

What Does RoomEQ Wizard (or a forum discussing their products) say? BTW, you can’t create your own calibration file, you’ll have to send it in for calibration (and make sure it’s approved). As for calibration, that depends on the level of accuracy you need. Unless you’re looking for decibel or sub-d...
