What are your fav RE EQ and why!!

I agree with both assessments to the differences, worth pointing out they are very slight differences in practice (and by measurements). But they are not both cloning the same device - the Pultec and the Tube Tech are slightly different IRL too. And you’d be lucky to find two Pultec’s side by side t...

Re: Workarounds for a marker track?

Yeah I'm not too sure how to make this work tbh. The only thing I can think of - and I'm just thinking out loud while I work so it might not be well thought through - is to place some blips/ticks at the points in your video you want to mark, and render that to an audio file, then disable stretching...

I find it funny that you go on about the 5th, which is the one that is the least out of tune in pretty much all the tunings.
Yes but most inportant one!
After the octave, of course! ;)

Our western harmonic system explained in a simple way (I hope)

I would not say inspired, our western intervals are the same as the harmonics. They use exactly the same calculation rules. The only clever thing which was invented was equal temperament because harmonics are only equally related to one key, tone. 12 tone is perfect imo. But some might say, 24 is b...

Re: Our western harmonic system explained in a simple way (I hope)

The main thing I was trying to write is explain that a tone with harmonics has the same intervals we use in western scales. This is simply a matter of multiplying, taking a tone and multiplying it with 2,3,4,5 etc. Same as with odd and even harmonics. I guess you could say that all scales are "insp...

Re: Our western harmonic system explained in a simple way (I hope)

Interesting subject, though I believe the title of the thread isn't clear - the natural harmonic "system" (series) is universal and based on math. The Western SCALE system is related to the harmonic series, as is every scale in use, right? This comes from instruments that use the harmonic series to...

Re: Organizing devices

So its okay to put Instruments in the send effects section? thats the only way I can see to 'Combine' them. If you mean the inserts, for instrument you’ll loose the ability to play them stacked (you can still play them individually), and you’ll loose all the splits (key range) and performance setti...

Re: Can anyone show me how to make a supersaw?

I wish I had learned how to use Reaktor. I think that would save a lot of soft synth purchases. it's never too late...I'm thinking of diving in, myself. There are so many presets to get you started, and so many modules to build. You won’t have to build anything totally from scratch, and TBH modifyi...

Re: So what are everyone's thoughts about binaural beats??

If music can make you feel a certain way then I don't think it's too farfetched to think that certain vibrations can help you sleep or promote deeper sleep. I'm not an expert on the subject so I can't definitely say one way or the other. "'deep relaxation, pineal gland, gamma wave, lucid dreaming, ...

Re: Best portable/pocketsized audio recorder with 3.5mm input?

Similar to a camera, I feel like the best portable field recorder is the one that you have on you at all times. Hence, I use my iPhone. I realize your phone is old as dirt, but maybe consider it an opportunity to upgrade your phone instead of buying another field recorder? You always have your phon...

Re: Best portable/pocketsized audio recorder with 3.5mm input?

Yeah I had seen the 3Dio as well. Which for me, like the Neumann KU 100, would be great for placing somewhere stationary where you don't want it to move at all or somewhere you can't be and/or aren't available. And I agree...I figure, if you yourself are free and walking about, why not use your own...

Have to resort to locally available Naga Jolokia sauces (which are awesomesauce too). #sadpanda #maybenotsosadpanda Favourite foods? Mostly vegan fare (99% of the time) but I do occasionally...

Re: Livestreaming Suitability

My first suggestion is to put the mic on a stand/lectern, or to use either a headset (over ear) mic or a lav/clip on mic instead of a hand held microphone. This would allow the presenters to forget about the microphone and just speak. I don't believe any compressor available is going to solve this i...

Re: Best portable/pocketsized audio recorder with 3.5mm input?

My only experience with anything binaural has been with the old Crown SASS microphone. It used the ear-spacing trick but not the outer ear design, and used Crown boundary microphones on basically a (well designed) box. https://media.sweetwater.com/api/i/q-82__ha-e39bf8d7dfa7d55a__hmac-ab02722a4178a1...

Seems like none are a perfect ‘fit’ as per your requirements. Re: Sends housed in Mix Channels

Not done this but I can sure see where it would be handy. An additional question, have none of you created a mix channel to use the SSL EQ for mastering, propably lots of you have. The SSL EQ, my all time favorite “channel EQ”, sits in between the wide EQ approach such as Pultec types and the surgi...

Re: Sends housed in Mix Channels

It’s the mix channel itself that inserts the delay, whether or not you use the direct outs. The only time you’ll have an issue is when using an effect that doesn’t involve delay (anything that’s not a reverb/delay/phaser/flanger/chorus/doubler etc.), which is not common for most folks. Although one...

Re: Can anyone show me how to make a supersaw?

selig, your "JP-8001" Reaktor ensemble looks very tantalizing! Do you think you'd be able to figure out the feedback oscillator nowadays? The world sorely needs a proper JP8k emulation... ;) Seriously though, supersaw emulations are a dime a dozen, but I'd gladly plunk down some change to have a fu...

Re: Can anyone show me how to make a supersaw?

Always wondered why they call them Super Saws. Are they more "buzzy"? A few years ago I seen a video with 3 Thors layered to create this super saw. Because the first place it appeared was on the JP8000 and it was called a "Super Saw" waveform on the main oscillator. It's 7 saw tooth oscillators sta...

Re: Can anyone show me how to make a supersaw?

A contest with supersaws is like a contest with picking your favorite shade of blue. We all like different things, so we’ll all choose different “shades” of supersaw. But you can’t argue with with “real thing” (another JP owner says… ). A bad joke from me :D Of course I understand that such a conte...
