Re: How you use send effects

Is that about accuracy? I thought if the wet signal is mixed separately to the dry signal ~ say, both are at 100%, then we get a 50-50 balance. So what's the difference? My 2 cents on Blend vs Send: The difference I focus on is where the dry signal starts/ends after adding the FX. When using a send...

Re: How you use send effects

I will use a Combinator for multi-FX chains for the reasons mentioned in this video, but don't always use Mix Channels for returns since solo doesn't work properly. Also, the built in FX returns are automatically delay compensated (and have been this way since the introduction of the SSL "Big" Mixer...

Re: Need advice on MIDI controller keyboard

New Keylab looks good, and they support every major DAW - EXCEPT REASON. Have been considering the original model, may still go for the MkII version. Now the big decision: Black or White? Sent from some crappy device using Tapatalk The Black does look really good. Weird that this would be the one k...

Re: Who would like to have lyrics inside Reason?

Fold/Unfold lyrics in Reason anyone? Maybe a shortcut key could show them up, where the Rack is? Maybe a way to draw text clips into sequencer and we'd have a karaokeish way to view lyrics? EDIT, Maybe two different text lines in different colors, separated by line. Haven’t read the entire thread s...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller

Ahh, I see what you mean. That’d be pretty amazing. Right now you can get close by using per-channel inserts, (though admittedly not in 500 series format). I like it! That's correct, and how I currently use the mixer. However, by doing that, it basically renders most of the current mixer features u...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller

Meters near faders - I don’t get this. Could be because I come from SSL hardware E, G, and J series. So enlighten me! Why do you need meters near faders? Pros: Anyone? In software the pros are that you would never want to scroll to the top just to see the faders. BTW, shame that in Reason, when you ...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller

 Do you have readily installable rings. Last time i looked for them i could only find some expensive ones. And yeah, what is the remote item for the track color? No, I wish there were cheap, correctly sized radius, bi-color LED rings. I could not find them. Instead I just laid them out o...

Re: Everyday Genius (/Crazy) Ideas

Man, you’re talking totally over my head, and I’m guessing this is not a real time process and only for extreme sound design or surgical fixing? The image you posted is from an article about NOISE REDUCTION! I spend more time mixing music and making music. I love sound design and will go down rabbi...

Idea for 2D-mixing

This is similar to the engineering art of “soundstage”. There are a few schools of thought on this that are (very roughly) divided into two camps: I have a different view… There are many schools of thought as to how to see production, including the two you mention. I don’t think tools like this nec...

Re: Everyday Genius (/Crazy) Ideas

Google gives me nothing on “Goldwave Spectrum Filter”. Guessing it’s either not used much in music production, or maybe called something else? Just like EQs and narrow boosts, steep crossovers seem like they SHOULD be better than gentle. But in practice, smooth slopes are more “musical” as are gent...

Everyday Genius (/Crazy) Ideas

To say the least, there was a world of difference when I tried for example MClass splitter, and created splitting myself with GoldWave's lovely Spectrum Filter. Google gives me nothing on “Goldwave Spectrum Filter”. Guessing it’s either not used much in music production, or maybe called something e...

Re: Everyday Genius (/Crazy) Ideas

One more thing, I don't like crossovers when it comes to multi-band processing, due to the overlapping. (1 Hz difference is okay though.) I would say it’s the overlapping that makes them work, since no music in the world is strictly contained to specific frequencies (expect maybe some specific addi...

Re: Everyday Genius (/Crazy) Ideas

In my world, at least as a goal, EVERYTHING that leaves my studio should “sound good and entertain all the way”. No exceptions. Why would I release a version that didn’t sound good and didn’t entertain all the way??? ;) Sent from some crappy device using Tapatalk Daft Punk made songs that went over...

Re: Idea for 2D-mixing

A brief outline what I have in mind: The area for mixing should be as big as a fully expanded Thor in the rack. So vertically the logest faders ever seen in Reason would become possible. 32 channels could be mixed regarding to level and panning on the horizontal space for 11 mixer channels (3 times...

Re: EMI Timing Issues and MIDI Instability

Interesting - seems the audio buffer size is tied to MIDI. Maybe because of what Ahornberg says (audio priority), which would mean that the driver/device used affects the MIDI response, and would explain the timing differences we are seeing when comparing low buffer settings on different hardware. M...

EMI Timing Issues and MIDI Instability

I decided to look at the EMI as others are looking at external devices. I was a little surprise that there was a difference between a low buffer size and a higher one as I was using a loopback midi so my midi would not go near any other hardware. Using a Low buffer @88 the avg 3 ticks off (lowest b...

EMI Timing Issues and MIDI Instability

Just did a quick test, multiple buffer settings, 16ths from Dual ARP to EMI via USB to OP1 (teenage engineering), back to Reason via Focusrite Clarett 2Pre. Worst case, @1024 buffer, was 2ms late (one note out of 64). Average less than ±1ms, certainly not enough to hear/feel. Worst case at 64 sample...

In this case the best approach is probably to bounce to "stereo" audio - sorry I don't have a better solution!

This drives me crazy...i want to edit notes and automation lines while a loop is playing. Everytime i switch between the notes and the automation, the sequencer jumps wild around. Re: EMI Timing Issues and MIDI Instability

Wait, are you saying you're recording the real synths into reason and the recording is late / off the beat in comparison to the MIDI? Maybe this is your issue, I was preparing to do a video about this. It's a bit hard to explain, I'll try to make water-tight re-readable sentences. So the DAW is rec...

Re: EMI Timing Issues and MIDI Instability

Ouch, that sounds bad…and if I'm understanding you correctly, and this works fine in other apps but not Reason, there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that it's Reason's fault, and they are slow to address this sort of thing, historically speaking. The good news is that it's Reason's faul...

Re: Selig NoteView

A note filter, like a Combinator? I’ve received that suggestion already (was it you?) and agree it’s a good idea. Sent from some crappy device using Tapatalk I do think there should be a more dedicated 'keyrange' player. Something that lets you filter out a range of notes. But I also think that you...
