Re: Next sale recommendation for Rack Extensions in 2023

Algoritm has become a mainstay for me, absolutely a desert island synth for me (and probably the only non-VST one for me). It's great at normal, retro sounding FM stuff AND weird dubsteppy stuff. I've even coaxed out some pretty normal subtractive stuff from it before, though I generally have more p...

Re: Loudness Wars - Logic vs Reason

Are there any genre-specific considerations or techniques for improving perceived loudness? I've seen Timbaland and Deadmau5 mention shortening the length of heavy-hitting kicks, which is apparently a common practice in (IIRC) dance music. I seem to be able to get decent perceived loudness without ...

Re: New reason studio effect device

I want to take this opportunity to express my love for the BV-X, as I've heard almost nothing about it after the release. I've been using it quite extensively for my new EP and it is an absolutely incredible device. The ease of use + flexibility to shape the sound is unmatched and you can get very ...

Re: The new Instrument, "Objekt" is coming in May

Really, really hoping there's a competition coming with this, the sounds are right up my alley, and I think that would be really fun.

We might need to host an unofficial one if Reason Studios won't...

Re: Why is Reason Lacking in so many popular DAW lists for 3rd party products

At the moment, 99% of Reason video output seem to be confined to Ryan's fun & wacky product demonstrations - designed to please everyone, which means they're not really for anyone - or plodding EDM/hip hop producers offering 25 minutes of "Uh, OK, I'm gonna load this, uh, this next preset, uh, wait...

Re: When was the last time you used the supplied sounbanks?

Orkester is my go-to library for orchestral sounds. Scenic has some good stuff too, but when I need a gong, bass drum roll or harp, I always go to Orkester.

Re: "metallic" / "stretch" / "filter"

There's also always adding a short (<60ms) delay and playing with the frequency and mix. It can get unruly, but it is a fun technique to play around with.

I really like DDL-1 for this, it's just so simple and nice.

Re: They seem to really need the money: REASON 12 UPGRADE 60% OFF

I snagged it.

Been hoping for a sale (or R13), because the current features didn't justify the higher price tag, but I think with the deal there's enough there to justify it.

Really looking forward to playing with the new Combinator, I've been eyeing all the cool stuff you've all been building.

Re: Scenic!!!

I like a couple of the stock presets as just "grab and go" sorts of things. Shaman drums is a great instant war drum for dubstep or other darker genres (especially if you run it through the default Scream 4 preset). I wish there were more "clean" patches, but I guess I can also just make my own from...

Re: Did you get bitwig from Pib?

I grabbed it with whatever was the cheapest bundle at the time. I like it a lot, especially as it works much better with my Launchpad Pro than reason does, but the limitation of only 2 VSTs kills its usefulness for me. I might give the 16-track version a try sometime if I find a good deal or somethi...

Re: What are the RE must haves?

The only paid devices I couldn't live without are: Polar - drop pitch of instruments by octaves, also works as a pseudo-chorus Fritz - send loops or tracks through and resample the output GQ-7 - EQ duties. I like the visual nature, and dragging the curves around. Honorable mention of Nostromo, I lov...

I liked it a lot. I wish it built up to a more bombastic section to really make you feel like you're fighting zombies, but I liked what was there.

It'd fit right in in a half life game for sure.

Hi! I listened to your ep and liked it. Quiet hours at night at my work and some spare time to listen to some music. I was somehow reminded of the cartoon Salad fingers from way back in internet history when hearing your music. If you dont know of Salad fingers (i'm sure you do) check for it on you...

Re: GORB Song D - (Tritone / GodOfRainbows Collab)

No guitars for this project. Synths and drums. That's all. Everything is programmed. Nothing is recorded/played. It's pure electronic music. The "guitar" is FM4 through Kuassas Creme amp (Rack Extension). I haven't really cared whether it sounds like a guitar or not. It's more the feel I'm after an...

(Lofi Electronica) Absence

Uh hi. Here's an EP I worked on for quite a while. It's really, really hard to categorize, it has elements of lofi hiphop, vaporwave/dreampunk, and bits of dubstep (?) thrown in there. The general idea was sampling my own unfinished ideas and chucking them through sample manglers (Fieldscaper, Fritz...

Wow, that's really awesome. I wasn't planning on upgrading, but this might be the thing to make me do it. If I could have the primary controls of Serum in the rack, then wow.

I had this whole plan to save money by not upgrading, but....

Re: (Melodic Ambient) - Ocean Waves

Really good, I'm not too mad it's short, I love short ambient/instrumental pieces, (A la Blank Banshee or Port Blue's the Albatross EP) It's almost like getting to flip through an audio postcard, and there's nothing stopping you from putting it on repeat if you want it longer, right?

Re: What RE is your Go-to Pad machine?

Not a synth, But I've been having a ton of fun bouncing a melody loop to audio, timestretching it massively, and then throwing it through Fritz. It can be a bit digital and artifact-y, which is kind of perfect for what I've been making lately, but your mileage may vary. You can also soften it up by ...

Re: Ekssperimental Sounds SPACEXPANDER - FREE Spring Reverb

Really nice to have another reverb to use so I don't continue my habit of using only the RV7000 initial preset. Never realized how nice a spring reverb is for adding some nice background to spooky drone sounds.

Re: Algoritm Song Competition!

I decided to throw my hat into the ring, with this sort of vaporwave-ish, lofi hiphop-ish amalgamation. https://soundcloud.com/harpuia2/familiar 14 instances of Algoritm, and three instances of Umpf Retro Beats for the drums. The riser is also Algoritm, as is that downlifter thing. Minimal effects, ...
