Re: What dumb thing I am likely to have done to the master bus?
I’ve managed to reconfigure my hardware to route the second output pair to the headphones, but now the Mac audio (which is routed to my interface) has gone AWOL :) just can’t win. Clearly: everyone needs a hardware output device with two stereo pairs, one for master out and one for control room out...

Re: What dumb thing I am likely to have done to the master bus?
It would help if one could place a "device" such as Ozone visually between the master section and the "hardware" section. I usually put all of those devices that sit between "Mixer output" and "Hardware Interface" simply in the extra Rack column to the left of the Mixer/Hardware IF Rack. That is in...

Re: What dumb thing I am likely to have done to the master bus?
Sure Reason got that special "slot", simply put Ozone right before the connection to the outputs on the "hardware interface" rack device instead of in the master section. As per dithering, I've been advocating for putting mastering stuff AFTER the Master Section and before the Hardware Interface. I...

Ozone dithering (was: Re: What dumb thing I am likely to have done to the master bus?)
Assuming you are right, which I am inclined to do, this kind of nullifies the advice Izotope gives for using their ditherer: Make sure Ozone is the last thing in the signal chain. I found the page I remembered reading way back whenever: https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/6658037106065-Oz...

Re: What dumb thing I am likely to have done to the master bus?
Thanks for jumping in so quickly with good ideas! Is this only happening on one project? If so, can you load a "good" project side by side and just look for what is different. Ah. Yes. I didn't have my bug-screening hat on. I should already have compared and contrasted with other projects. Will do. ...

What dumb thing I am likely to have done to the master bus?
I have a project in which sliding the mixer's master fader has an audible effect but doesn't change the level entering the master section. I've searched — quite thoroughly, I imagine — for ways in which things I might have disconnected something and found nothing. I've been using Reason for many yea...

Am I the last person to realize the tiny meter on a combinator displays not left/right output but mono input/output?
How long have I been using Reason again? Is it 20 days or 20 years? So disoriented right now!

Re: "Black Friday Week" sales have begun in the Reason shop!
Maybe a "sort by discount amount" had helped the graphics designer which made the BF sale image? Heh. It would have helped me, too. I imagine all of us were looking at that percentage along the way. Software pricing is weird and can be volatile even without a discount week, but that doesn't mean I ...

Re: "Black Friday Week" sales have begun in the Reason shop!
(reminder that Black Friday is a thing in the RS shop) Thanks! I'm the kind of person who might otherwise have let this pass me by. I am not a synth collector — or rather I feel like I already have a decadent embarrassment of riches — but I did pick up a few players and effects. The biggest win see...

Re: Loudness in mastering/mixing - Open discussion
Even during the peak of the loudness wars, most of us mixed to sound good, and left it to mastering engineers to figure out the loudness. Now folks mix to sound loud, and try to leave to to mastering to try to make it sound good. Hmmmmm….. ;) I even saw a YouTube video advising that if you want a l...

I'd play with it if it were in front of me.
Might be nice for "drums" and "bass" and scary risers and cinematic rumbles.
But I couldn't make heads or tails of the marketing of the tech under the covers.

Re: Universal Audio LUNA: Free to all Mac users
I'm not saying this is a bad idea on their part. I'm just curious about the nuts and bolts of how they determined it would be a good idea. The rest of my earlier message sucked less, but what I should have written here is more like: I'm not saying this is a bad idea on their part. I'm just curious ...

Re: Universal Audio LUNA: Free to all Mac users
So you think the subscription for their premium whatever is actually more than the sum of the included plug-ins? That was the impression I got from a quick read. I confess I did not examine it microscopically. :-) I’m simply talking about the business move. But as with any subscription, if you’re s...

Re: GPU Audio
Always bear in mind that all of those analogue modelling synths your CPU can handle are cutting a lot of corners. We don't notice most of the CPU brick walls because they're so prohibitively CPU intensive that they're not even on the menu. Sure, though I think the point is better served with an app...

Re: Universal Audio LUNA: Free to all Mac users
They have a subscription service. Their reputation is still large for being the one of the “best” in the industry. Why not gateway that with a free DAW that’s actually good. Besides, Luna was always free. It’s just now free for everybody. So you think the subscription for their premium whatever is ...

Re: Universal Audio LUNA: Free to all Mac users
I imagine they hope this is a "gateway drug" for buying their plug-ins, which are reputedly great. But they are doing more than hope; they are placing a bet. Meanwhile, there are many good plug-ins out there for free. Though most free ones are not anywhere near as plush as those from UAD and Izotope...

Re: GPU Audio
I used to look forward to small increases in CPU performance every few years. Now that Apple has left Intel behind? The speed is starting to feel silly. Who needs to involve a GPU? I will probably never choke Reason unless somebody asks me to mix something symphonic. And even then maybe not! (Of cou...

autistic middle aged men I agree 100% with your post, but just a small nitpick: can we not do this? People who actually are on the autism spectrum don't always appreciate their identity being used as a casual synonym for "annoying" or "obsessive" Fucking neurotypicals will never realize their non-l...

Re: ”Shut the fuck up and use the software. It's great.”
How does the pan knob work in a real SSL? Does it actually pan or does it just do the attenuation thing? The SSL E/G/J only has mono channels so only a single pan knob per channel. You use two channels for ‘stereo’, so two ‘mono’ pan knobs for stereo (which is why Selig Gain has two independent pan...

Re: MusicTech: Niklas Agevik talks Reason
Reason is competing with other DAWs from a financial point of view. If you have to watch what you're spending your money on then you'll probably try to cut down on duplication, so while Netflix might stay you might have to drop one of the two (DAWs) you have a licence for that more or less do the s...

For context, here's the full quote: "Our mission is to turn music dreamers into music makers,” Niklas Agevik starts, echoing the company’s longstanding mission. "It should be inviting to make music. The competition isn’t other DAWs or plugins; the competition is actually Netflix or Steam – nothing ...

Re: R.I.P Moog
I wonder if the people that look down their nose at Behringer customers (use) Uber or a non-IBM branded PC? Many totally do. To be fair, though, part of the point of Moog is that (most of) its (flagship) products are analog, and it's possible to do a lot of superstitious romantic cork-sniffing abou...
