Re: Loudness Wars - Logic vs Reason
As for wasted space, were you LOOKING at the ref track and not LISTENING to it!?! ;) You were replying to someone else, but yeah, years ago when I first saw a spectrum analyzer -- and before I started trying to make stuff sound good myself -- the visual aspects of the experience evidently made a st...

Re: Loudness Wars - Logic vs Reason
For example, I learned from reference tracks that there's often a lot of empty space in the higher frequencies you don't have to consume just because it's available. Once I saw this in a spectrum analyzer, I stopped assuming I needed to fill that space, and then I realized: hey, I don't miss that. ...

Re: Loudness Wars - Logic vs Reason
Reference tracks always depressed me, so I never used them  They solve a great many problems, not all of which boil down to filthy commerce or giving in to peer pressure. :-) For example, I learned from reference tracks that there's often a lot of empty space in the higher frequencies you don'...

Re: Waves Audio new Online Mastering Service.
I let (Ozone) do its own thing by analyzing the track and went with the result... That flow merely suggests a place to start — it says so right on the screen! :-) Me, I find that starting place to be too much like joining the loudness war, which I avoid like the plague because I'm not mastering for...

Re: submitting to SubmitHub - few advices needed for official releasing a song
okey, guys, i noticed, since i am not a power user, only now, i mean tonight, that you can also distribute/release songs using SoundCloud platform. so i am thinking to take this path - using SoundCloud for releasing my music as an independent musician. since i have a next pro plan on SC i can take ...

Re: Soundmasters MIDI Chord Progressions $10
There is tension between those who think of themselves as producers and those who think of themselves as composers. I enjoy dinking around in tools which suggest the next chord, so maybe I'm in between? :-) Even if you know nothing about music, if you have Reason( I assume all of us do) You could j...

Re: submitting to SubmitHub - few advices needed for official releasing a song
Do submit hub do distribution rnw? I thought it was more promotion based and potentially getting on spotify playlist etc? Is it promotion you are after or distribution (Spotify, iTunes releases etc) I have zero experience with services which try to beat the bushes with curators and influencers. Unt...

Re: Soundmasters MIDI Chord Progressions $10
Wow! You can buy chords! I wonder where they get them from.... Chord progressions aren't much different than drumbeats in terms of pre-made musical elements that have value to a producer. It's just as easy to manufacture chord progressions for the purpose of selling them as it is to manufacture MID...

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. A team of attorneys is now working on it.
They tell me it's tricky to outlaw this without also outlawing the names of worthless internet startups.
Oh, wait. Jenkins! Get in here!

Re: excessive side-chain compression is now a violation of international law
tbh, the entire concept of ducking one part based on another part (let alone that other part being the kick drum, of all things) is baffling to me, more often than not. I get it's a stylistic thing, but damn, if the sound of your kick drum is the most interesting part of your song, you've got way b...

excessive side-chain compression is now a violation of international law
OK, I'm calling it now. This is a done deal. My office will issue the formal edict shortly. Excessive side-chain compression is now a violation of international law. First-time offenders will be whisked away by black helicopter to a re-education camp and taught how to use EQ. To return to polite soc...

Re: What can I know and understand about the difference between mixing and mastering a song?
It doesn't help that "remastered" means whatever "they" want it to mean and may include mix changes. It doesn't help that "remixed" means whatever "they" want it to mean and may bear no real resemblance to the original material. It's best to stay out of the marketing domain. Those people are crazy!...

I don't get the actual question here, but I suppose by being a loving human role model and not some bot. I'm beginning to lean more towards the latter than the former, as the OP has not replied even once so far. Carry on though, it may be a more interesting conversation without them! ;) I never let...

Re: What can I know and understand about the difference between mixing and mastering a song?
I'd add that it's good to avoid a common mistake I fell into, too. When I basically thought that we have to do some restoration magic during mastering ~ which in fact was basically a very complicated form of mixing, done on a single stereo mix channel. It doesn't help that "remastered" means whatev...

Re: What can I know and understand about the difference between mixing and mastering a song?
Mixing combines multiple streams of audio into a single stream of audio. Mastering adjusts that single stream, historically for multiple delivery mediums, e.g. LP or Spotify, but along the way the tools of that trade came to be used to "sweeten" the stream for all mediums in ways which would otherwi...
