Re: VST3 Performance Impact?
Now that Live does VST3, Reason is the only reason I have to install VST2 versions of things that come as VST3. I have a Reason-specific VST2 folder that my other DAWs do not scan. Bit of a pain really. There are still many companies that make only VST2 but there are a growing number of new plugins ...

Re: I won't buy another Waves plugin until they sort out copy protection
I've always thought it was particularly tight of Waves to only allow one licence. Like many people I have a main PC and a laptop for occasional mobile use. My main PC has legitimate Waves plugins. The laptop has a selected subset of Waves plugins that might not quite so, ahem, legitimate. They never...

Re: VST3 Performance Impact?
None. You should expect neither an increase nor a decrease.
What you do get is a whole load more choice of instruments and effects and, in most cases, ones that will behave better on hi-res screens.

Re: Whats your opinion about the convenience of testing/trialing new plugins from the shop?
It's easy to do and has saved me a fortune over the years. You get to try the latest hyped thing and learn that it is mostly over-hyped! like what? Biggest disappointments have been Evolution and ScaleMatrix. Some people love them, I didn't. You get so many toys as standard with Reason you really d...

Re: Reason 11 not visible in REWIRE cubase 10.5
Reason 11 does not support Rewire. They dropped support for it. Reason 10.X is what you need, 10.x and 11 will happily live side by side. Or you can use the VST Rack instead.

Re: Default Having the root key in the background playing while songwriting?
Having the root note of the chord playing all the time makes some sense, or the whole chord, but not the root note of the key. I compose lots of straightforward pop/rock. I always have a chord track running through the whole song, usually playing strings but sometimes a cheesy synth. That track does...

Re: Is there a free DrOctorex alternative?
The vast majority of my vst and stock instruments work except a few because my Akai MPK49 have preset control over some devices. When I load up a DrOctorex and run it, you can see the filter knobs and other parameters moving without my input causing the loop to go very low or silent after about 20 ...

Re: ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION about the proposed "REs with known bugs" list
I think we'd easily weed out the nefarious turdery (one day I may call an album after that phrase). What I'm unhappy to read in this thread is the suggestion that we should not list bugs because some of the devs are active on this forum. It's fine for a dev to elect to stop fixing bugs after a perio...

Re: ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION about the proposed "REs with known bugs" list
I think it's a great idea. It works on other forums but not as one big thread. You need a bug sub-forum. At the top of that forum is a sticky thread detailing the state of play - all the known bugs and the info to reproduce them. That thread is locked. Only the owner/mod can edit it. The rest of the...

Re: I really wish I knew what it was I was doing
I think you have just described both the strength and the weakness of players. You can throw random shit into them and they do their best to make something musically or rhythmically sensible out of it. But you've no idea how they did it. I do read manuals and sometimes they don't help much - a great...

Re: Looking for a very small-footprint controller keyboard
Look at Akai LPK25. You can't get much smaller with "real" keys. But are you sure you don't want a few pads and knobs too? Something like Launchkey Mini or Akai MPK Mini take up a little more space (but not width) and give you more hands-on options for not much more money. All are USB powered. Avoid...

Have you sent it to UJAM for their comp?
I started but then realised I hated those cheesy vocals and I already own most of the UJAM stuff so the comp was a bit pointless for me.

Re: USB audio interfaces and virtual machines
I had some success with Win7 in VirtualBox as a dedicated "music PC", with a Behringer interface and ASIO4All as the audio driver, but it became a pain to maintain and trying to create a Win10 version did me in. I got the Focusrite Scarlett interface running with it but MIDI was intermittent, which ...

@DaveyG, why? Those who want it now can pay, those who can wait don't have to, but they can if they want to support the dev... Top video. I'm almost inspired to get a drum kit.

I was convinced "Sef Nitty" must be an anagram but I can't get anything sensible out of it. At least not in English. Maybe I'll try every other language in the world. Back in a mo.
