Re: Reason Financials 2021

Don't forget that all of their plugins are tied to Reason since they refuse to release VST versions. I'm wagering that there are a decent amount of people who stick with Reason simply because they've sunk so much money into RE's. Honestly, I’m not sure why this is still an argument. RRP solves this...

Re: Reason Financials 2021

I don't wonder this at all. You know what happens when you are arrogant and too greedy. Reason and the RE's are so f***** expensive. They even increased the prices while ago. Synths used to be 99€, now they are, what, 129€? You can get so many good synths and FX's in 20-50€. Or even free. Market is...

Re: Reason Financials 2021

Aside from the Rack, Reason's main appeal used to be the instruments, but the plugin industry surpassed Reason in that regard. There are even free plugins that equal or surpass most of what Reason has to offer these days. So now it's all about using the Rack in another DAW as a plugin, but what good...

The difference is very slight. I notice it more when making pluck sounds. Maybe there is an envelope difference too?

Thanks!
Monotone's envelopes have always felt snappier to me than Thor's. I wouldn't be surprised if they glued Subtractor's envelopes to Thor's analog oscillator.

Re: Where is the October update?

Software development is very similar to construction - building a house or road network etc. Both disciplines have a design, a master plan, a budget and a deadline. They both plot out a plan in the beginning and set how much it will cost - be it software or a sky scraper. Yet - you don't hear of co...

Combinator 2: Why limit the number of controls?

The 32-knob limit, in particular, is causing me a lot of frustration because it's preventing me from turning some VST plugins into rack devices.

Re: What's happened to us (/them)? ... (10 years after discovering RE trademark and patent)

I´m currently testing some free VST inside Reason and while it´s pleasant to have additional options/possibilities, the access through seperate windows popping up cluttering the screen and also the missing easy CV-ability within the rack (not talking about combinator here) is way behind Reason´s in...

Re: What's happened to us (/them)? ... (10 years after discovering RE trademark and patent)

I could be wrong here, but aren't most Rack Extensions made by independent developers? You know... the ones who create instruments and effects, and who I presume profit directly from their work when we buy them? I'm not sure how or why a developer would create a Rack Extension to be specifically pu...

Re: Youtuber tries Reason 12 for the first time and tries to make acid techno

Making acid in Reason is like recording a band with Pro Tools. It's what the software was made for. They've shoehorned traditional DAW features into Reason over the years with varying degrees of success, but for me it will always be the ultimate techno studio.

Re: What New Reason Device Would You Like To See?

Yep, a brass modelling synth device, in the same vein (and with the same quality and ease of use) as Friktion would be dope indeed. For Serum-ish stuff, isn't Europa already filling the gap ? I suppose, to an extent but it isn't technically an actual solid wavetable synth (is it?). It's called a Sp...

I hate to always be 'that guy', but I instinctively knew from the beginning that they were going to use the Rack Extension system to sell devices that otherwise would have been part of an upgrade. If they had instead added VST support back then, maybe we'd have a fully featured implementation of it...

Re: What New Reason Device Would You Like To See?

The single most impactful change they could make is to add oversampling options to all of the old devices. I'd also like a semi-modular Super Combinator with the ability to create instruments with oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, etc. from every RS instrument you own. Anything deeper than that...

Re: Youtuber tries Reason 12 for the first time and tries to make acid techno

Was great to hear such a positive take on Reason 12. A lot of negativity around. Gets a bit tiring after a while 😕 To be fair, the negativity has little to do with Reason itself, which is still, 20 years later, a unique take on music creation in the software space. It's the people who drive the shi...

Re: Interview with Ernst Nathorst-Böös 2003 - everything has happened as predicted

Agreed. And in the rush to pile blame on Verdane people overlook the fact that all these distractions happened whilst Ernst was captain of the ship. That deserves to be a sticky around here Was he running the ship when they implemented Codemeter? Because that was the start of the shark-jumping.

Re: Interview with Ernst Nathorst-Böös 2003 - everything has happened as predicted

To be fair. They only made one synth in that time span (4 upgrades; 6-9), Parsec. Two if you count Layers. All of the upgrades were basically DAW features ironically enough. I think Rack Extensions was an excellent idea that just wasn’t executed well. Had there been no serious limitations 3rd parti...

Re: Interview with Ernst Nathorst-Böös 2003 - everything has happened as predicted

What we'd rather do is keep making instruments that can satisfy our users' appetite. This was a brilliant strategy until they started hiding them behind the Rack Extension paywall. There were damn near 10 years worth of upgrades between Thor and Europa that didn't feature a single new synth. I know...

Re: Reason now the eurorack of software?

Have you had a look at Bitwig? To me it feels even more like a virtual modular Powerstation. Much more flexible than Reason and even more user friendly than my Eurorack setup. Still loving both, though. Bitwig, to me, is the DAW version of Buzztracker. It's a sequencer with a modular environment at...

they could easily add at least a few features that wouldn’t result in that sort of outcome. metering springs to mind, and they could even do basic math/logic without things needing to go that far. think some of the stuff you can do in Thor, but without having to add a Thor device. not sure they’d s...

the thing about the new combi that gets me is that—yeah, it’s an improvement, but it’s not that much of an improvement. most of it is visual, not functional. even the functional stuff (more controls) is not much different than what was there before—just more of them. between that and the other <che...

Re: So what's your ideal pricing?

RS is a terrible company holding a wonderful product hostage. This is how a lot of us feel, I think. First they made something beautiful. Then they saddled it with the most horrific DRM scheme ever devised (god bless the crackers who killed Codemeter). Then they started hiding their best devices be...

Re: New Pricing for Reason 12 - Upgrades now 199 from 129

Well, by keeping the price at $129 for 20 years, the upgrade price has been going down each year. $200 today is worth a little less than $129 in 2000. They are stating the price has remained the same, but that is a lie . Upgrades used to be $99 / 99 EUR. I entered at Reason 3 and paid for every upg...

I don't spend money on buggy software, so price is irrelevant, especially if they try to intimidate me into buying by price gouging. This x1000. I only paid $80 to upgrade to Reason 12, but I still feel ripped off because it's not as stable as older versions of Reason. At one time, Reason was the m...

Re: New Pricing for Reason 12 - Upgrades now 199 from 129

Everything goes to the subscription model. The price of Reason was pretty high in comparison to other DAWs. Now R12 is going to be almost the priciest one. Rack Extensions cost millions. Drum Sequencer 75 Euro - are you kidding me? It's worth 19. It is the policy of CEO. Force people to buy subscip...
