Re: Reason 13 has arrived: Release Notes
Wow! Initial impressions of Polytone are UTTERLY underwhelming. After being completely blown away by Objekt, in comparison, Polytone feels a bit like Subtractor with a crossfader. Anyway, early days. I've been A/B'ing Polytone with Diva running a similar dual-osc setup and the results are...meh. It...

Re: Announcing Reason 13
Reason's UI has been getting more confusing over the years, and this update just adds to the confusion. I recently booted up Reason 4 and I almost forgot how much simpler it was back then. At this point, I'd just like to be able to disable most of what they've added since then.

Re: Announcing Reason 13
I bought Omnisphere and promptly returned it for a full refund after spending a solid week with it. This is refreshing to hear. As someone who already had too many synths as a Reason-only user before Reason VST support, I often hear hype about Omnisphere, but rarely come across any synth that seems...

Re: Announcing Reason 13
I mostly agree, but sometimes you just want to flex your muscles with a huge-sounding patch. I'm withholding judgement on Polytone until I try it, but that video wasn't a very impressive showcase. Indeed, and I would reach for other synths for that job, like Europa or Thor in Reason, Massive or Pig...

Re: Announcing Reason 13
Maybe this is a classic case of crappy Reason presets, but Polytone isn't knocking my socks off. This isn’t the type of synth to knock off socks. It’s a sensible pair of shoes that is super comfortable to wear all day and go on long walks, not some flashy/expensive shoes designed to impress (but ma...

Re: Is there anything else RS can add to the Rack after Polytone and Ripley?
Kontakt, Pigments, Diva, Omnisphere, etc charge for updates though. …and Reason charges for new devices. I’m not talking about the charging part, I’m talking about what they are charging FOR. My point is there will be some point where the law of diminishing returns will kick in, if it’s not already...

Re: Is there anything else RS can add to the Rack after Polytone and Ripley?
Give Combinator unlimited knobs. I like to control VST instruments in the Rack with Combinators (I don't like pop-up VST windows) and I often have to make compromises because I hit the 32-knob limit. They don't even have to make them unlimited, but I've wanted a few more than 32 knobs at times. I'd...

Re: Is there anything else RS can add to the Rack after Polytone and Ripley?
Bring back PX7 and make it a stock device and make Drum Sequencer a stock device. Filling in gaps in the stock package should be their priority. To reiterate what many have said and to add; To complete the *stock* RS offering - full featured rack EQ i.e multiple bands, left/right and mid/side option...

Re: Announcing Reason 13
At this point it all comes down to taste. Personally I like the Reason Studios synths best when the designers gets to stay within their vision of what makes a fun, versatile, and fast instrument. IMHO they are masters at avoiding feature bloat. For my taste, the everything-for-everyone synth VSTs o...

Re: Announcing Reason 13
I'm surprised more people aren't complaining about Polytone. It looks so basic and boring in comparison to the competition. It's like they conceded that couldn't compete with U-he and Arturia in the virtual analog space so they didn't even try. It seems like such a missed opportunity. you see borin...

Re: Reason Financials 2021
Don't forget that all of their plugins are tied to Reason since they refuse to release VST versions. I'm wagering that there are a decent amount of people who stick with Reason simply because they've sunk so much money into RE's. Honestly, I’m not sure why this is still an argument. RRP solves this...

Re: Reason Financials 2021
I don't wonder this at all. You know what happens when you are arrogant and too greedy. Reason and the RE's are so f***** expensive. They even increased the prices while ago. Synths used to be 99€, now they are, what, 129€? You can get so many good synths and FX's in 20-50€. Or even free. Market is...

Re: Reason Financials 2021
Aside from the Rack, Reason's main appeal used to be the instruments, but the plugin industry surpassed Reason in that regard. There are even free plugins that equal or surpass most of what Reason has to offer these days. So now it's all about using the Rack in another DAW as a plugin, but what good...

Re: What sorcery is this Monotone brilliance?
Monotone's envelopes have always felt snappier to me than Thor's. I wouldn't be surprised if they glued Subtractor's envelopes to Thor's analog oscillator.

Re: Where is the October update?
Software development is very similar to construction - building a house or road network etc. Both disciplines have a design, a master plan, a budget and a deadline. They both plot out a plan in the beginning and set how much it will cost - be it software or a sky scraper. Yet - you don't hear of co...

Combinator 2: Why limit the number of controls?
The 32-knob limit, in particular, is causing me a lot of frustration because it's preventing me from turning some VST plugins into rack devices.

Re: What's happened to us (/them)? ... (10 years after discovering RE trademark and patent)
I´m currently testing some free VST inside Reason and while it´s pleasant to have additional options/possibilities, the access through seperate windows popping up cluttering the screen and also the missing easy CV-ability within the rack (not talking about combinator here) is way behind Reason´s in...

Re: What's happened to us (/them)? ... (10 years after discovering RE trademark and patent)
I could be wrong here, but aren't most Rack Extensions made by independent developers? You know... the ones who create instruments and effects, and who I presume profit directly from their work when we buy them? I'm not sure how or why a developer would create a Rack Extension to be specifically pu...

Re: Youtuber tries Reason 12 for the first time and tries to make acid techno
Making acid in Reason is like recording a band with Pro Tools. It's what the software was made for. They've shoehorned traditional DAW features into Reason over the years with varying degrees of success, but for me it will always be the ultimate techno studio.

Re: What New Reason Device Would You Like To See?
Yep, a brass modelling synth device, in the same vein (and with the same quality and ease of use) as Friktion would be dope indeed. For Serum-ish stuff, isn't Europa already filling the gap ? I suppose, to an extent but it isn't technically an actual solid wavetable synth (is it?). It's called a Sp...

Re: What's happened to us (/them)? ... (10 years after discovering RE trademark and patent)
I hate to always be 'that guy', but I instinctively knew from the beginning that they were going to use the Rack Extension system to sell devices that otherwise would have been part of an upgrade. If they had instead added VST support back then, maybe we'd have a fully featured implementation of it...

Re: What New Reason Device Would You Like To See?
The single most impactful change they could make is to add oversampling options to all of the old devices. I'd also like a semi-modular Super Combinator with the ability to create instruments with oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, etc. from every RS instrument you own. Anything deeper than that...
