Re: Reason 12 is coming!

Reason has a workable workflow and the rack is unrivalled when it comes to creating custom processing paths. Reaktor and Max blow Reason out of the water in that respect, but Reason exists in its own space: somewhere between a DAW and a modular software studio. I'm an avid Max user, but there's som...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!

I've been complaining about Reason for over 20 years at this point, but I still use it because it's the only DAW that faithfully emulates the experience of working with hardware. Until someone (Behringer with their upcoming free DAW?) steps up to the plate with a DAW that blatantly steals Reason's R...

Re: How have the introductions of VSTs changed how you use Reason?

This is why I wanted the new combinator so much: VSTs in the rack are really powerful, but lack instant visual feedback and a UI in-the-rack, so if we can build our own UIs, that really will improve workflow and usability. This is why I'm hoping for the ability to create enough knobs and CV inputs ...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!

for people already using RRP in another DAW, you’ll probably eventually get more bang for your buck buying VSTs, or just getting additional content specific to your DAW. Reason upgrades are a decent value when they go on sale. $90 doesn't buy you a whole lot in the VST plugin space these days, but ...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!

BTW…. NI products are great and integration with Maschine is amazing. But if we think RS are sometimes too aloof and secretive for their own good then NI are a whole other level… much less engagement with their users than RS (from what I have seen at least) and no shortage of users complaining abou...

Re: Is there a Reason user "personality"?

I’ve had less snobbish remarks about using Reason than people just scratching their heads about why anyone would put up with its limitations. This was mostly pre audio and pre vst but still, the incomplete half asses implementations continue eh. No one is gonna look at the sequencer and think it’s ...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!

What amazes me most about the Reason web site is how it has gotten progressively less usable over the years. I generally only go there after they announce an update, and it's always, without exception, worse than the last time I went there. I recently decided to check the shop and couldn't find it. ...

Re: Combinator unison/round robin

I like your idea for an auto-unison knob, and I would add that it's important that we have enough knobs to assign to every parameter of whatever devices we're controlling. Being able to adjust the envelope, filters, etc. of 20 or 30 instruments simultaneously would open the door for ridiculous synth...

Re: New Sampler Thread

Yeah.. no. They don’t cover all of the bases. That’s why they’re adding a new one. Now one can argue that what’s lacking could’ve been an update to Grain of NNXT, but it’s beyond a simple UI update. Just this week we had two threads here, one asking about time stretching samples and another about c...

Re: The Combinator v2 Thread

This is a bit of a pipe dream, But I always thought any new combinator device should be able to house Mix/Audio Channels within it - this then creates the opportunity to template large mixes, or at least provide a quick an easy way to have devices such as Kong/Umpf pre-routed to separate mix channe...

Re: New Sampler Thread

I hate to be 'that guy', but the last thing Reason needs is a new sampler. NN-XT and Grain already cover all of the bases. In terms of sampling, all Reason needs (and has needed for many years) is better sample editing, but that's a UI problem, not a sampler problem. Wake me up when they include a D...

Re: How powerful are reason's stock synths?

I'm torn between FL studio and reason 10. FL studio's price plan and larger userbase (hence greater support infrastructure) has me tempted. However, reason's stock synths appear far more powerful that FL's. Could a more experienced producer than I verify this? Its an important factor for me as I ca...

but also, I’d be careful with AMD GPUs—I had my R9 390 for a few years and the last couple of them, I’d had random hardware issues (occasional crashes, error messages, etc.) that I could never really confirm were being caused by the GPU until that night when it just wouldn’t output anything. Re: Mattias: "Reason is the rack and you can use it as a plug-in or standalone with its own sequencer and mixer etc."

Maybe for you and others, it;s not the cables but the wood and metal simulated rack rails and/or the vertical stacking of instruments (air something else) that allow you to do things you can’t do in other DAWs - that’s great, but it’s not how I feel, that’s all. To each their own! It's the cables a...

Re: Mattias: "Reason is the rack and you can use it as a plug-in or standalone with its own sequencer and mixer etc."

It would be rather odd if my "computer program" word-processor had a feathered quill for a cursor, and a scroll for the background paper, just because in the past we had to use them to write a document. And taking that analogy into music making... DAWs these days don't generally have hardware conta...

I'm just going to avoid any RS stuff in collabs, or bake my effects into the audio and not tell anyone. Re: Mattias: "Reason is the rack and you can use it as a plug-in or standalone with its own sequencer and mixer etc."

What bothers me more than Propellerhead's lack of interest in creating a better sequencer is the fact that there's a market for another DAW with a UI that emulates hardware like Reason, but nobody seems to be interested in tapping it. Instead, we have a couple dozen companies putting out their versi...

The only way I'd subscribe to Reason+ is if the yearly subscription included a permanent upgrade to the latest version of Reason (possibly a lite version) sans Reason+ perks. Leaving people hanging after they paid for a year's worth of Reason+ would be a bad mistake. Oh, and they would have to reope...

Thought I was done with Reason after 9, but Suite 11 was an incredible value for someone like me who skipped 10.

I have a feeling they won't be doing anything like that again.

imagine if instead of those useless, Klang Pangea and player they spend time creating an mclass at the level of fabfilter a more powerful combinator, and a better sequencer then vst would not be needed I don't think they want the base package to be feature complete anymore. I wasn't impressed with Subtractor when I first got Reason 1. My favorite soft synth at the time (Synoptic Probe) ran circles around it, but I got tired of importing audio samples from Probe into NN19, so Subtractor eventually became my main synth. I grew to like it because it was so efficient that ...

Re: HiDPI scaling has to be round the corner right?

I set my DPI scaling to 150% within Windows, which makes Reason's UI usable. Ironically, it makes most modern DAWs unusable because the UI elements are too big and there's usually no way to scale them down.

A cookie to the first developer that can implement high-quality downscaling and upscaling.
