Re: So what's your ideal pricing?

I don't spend money on buggy software, so price is irrelevant, especially if they try to intimidate me into buying by price gouging. This x1000. I only paid $80 to upgrade to Reason 12, but I still feel ripped off because it's not as stable as older versions of Reason. At one time, Reason was the m...

Re: New Pricing for Reason 12 - Upgrades now 199 from 129

Everything goes to the subscription model. The price of Reason was pretty high in comparison to other DAWs. Now R12 is going to be almost the priciest one. Rack Extensions cost millions. Drum Sequencer 75 Euro - are you kidding me? It's worth 19. It is the policy of CEO. Force people to buy subscip...

Re: New Pricing for Reason 12 - Upgrades now 199 from 129

Hahahahaha. R12 for €70. To infinity and beyond. 12 to the end. Where d'ya get the upgrade at that price? and it used to be (not seen it of late) like in U.K money, £11 less through Amazon but not till a couple of months or so after release. Maybe it'll be substantially less through Amazon in the n...

Re: New Pricing for Reason 12 - Upgrades now 199 from 129

They'd have to be pretty mind blowing at that price. I just commented over on Facebook that I think I'll probably never upgrade again. Can't justify that price. Probably just a ploy to get people to subscribe. I mean, I only paid £240 (with student discount) in 2012 for the whole software and they ...

Re: New Pricing for Reason 12 - Upgrades now 199 from 129

Well, by keeping the price at $129 for 20 years, the upgrade price has been going down each year. $200 today is worth a little less than $129 in 2000. Upgrades used to cost $99. You also have to take into consideration that you got everything when you upgraded back then. Now they withhold devices a...

Re: POLL: VST3 or QOL Priority? What would you have rather seen first?

I'd be okay with VST2 supporting midi in/out, but really VST3 would be fantastic due to the number of free/opensource plugins that are VST3 only. Yeah, this is a big deal for me because two of the best open source synths (Surge and Odin2) are VST3-only. Reason and Max are the only pieces of commerc...

Re: MusicRadar Reason 12 Review out...

For a stock sampler , you can't deny Mimic is very good for what it is. Agreed, but it sucks that we have to think in those terms. We've been conditioned to accept the fact that stock devices are generally not going to be as robust as the devices they lock behind the RE paywall, and that's a shame.

Re: How Often Have You Used the Combinator in the past 12 months ? [Legacy C1 + New C2]

I use Combinator setups in every song to save myself time. Over the years, I've created enough Combinator setups to handle most of my needs. The problem was always the lack of knobs. Managing synth stacks was nightmarish before Combinator 2, but the results were worth the effort. Now it's a cinch.

Re: Reason Studios shares their roadmap

As far as new devices are concerned, what I'd like more than anything is an updated version of Thor with a focus on improving its analog emulation and expanding its FM synthesis capabilities. It doesn't have to be on the level of Diva or Algoritm, but the base package is sorely in need of updated vi...

I'm not just talking about the ability to patch devices together with virtual cables, though. I'm thinking more along the lines of a visual programming language, but done in a way that suits Reason.

Re: How would you rate the R12 upgrade? (Upgraders and R+ subscribers only)

I rate it highly based on the potential of Combinator 2. Are they going to keep it as-is or are they going to compete with Bitwig and introduce a fully modular core within Reason? It doesn't have to be on the level of Max or Reaktor, but the Rack was made for something like that.

Re: Reason Studios Youtube Views 2007-2021

Historically, like back at the beginning (pre 05/06 era) Reason was entry level studio software, it was the hobby software of choice. Most people were hardware users at that time and Reason was a sort of evolution of stuff like Dance Ejay and even Music 2000 on the Playstation. It was accessible to...

Re: Do you think reason will ever get a better sampler?

Probably said this earlier in this thread or another, but I doubt the issue is that Kontakt exists, but that RS has their own Kontakt-like sampler for Rack Extension development. So it already exists. To put that in the rack for general use would likely interfere with REs. A general update to NNXT ...

Re: Hi-Res - slightly disappointed

Reason is now auto-scaling devices based on your resolution and DPI settings. VST plugins don't do that. It also has to load a high enough resolution version of each device to look good when zoomed in as high as 200% on a 4k display. Other than giving people the option to switch to a legacy display...

It's looking like it might be a repeat of the introduction of VST support in 9.5 - That implementation was also totally half-baked when it came out and it was essentially a beta feature until 10.3.
I'd argue that VST implementation is still in beta since we don't have VST3 support yet.

I'm one of those who prefer to buy instead of subscribe, takes some pressure off - pressure is the last thing I need. I also think it feels fantastic to actually own it. With subscription you just rent it, it's on loan. People have different opinions about this, understandably. Cold logic might dic...

Re: Is anyone still working at the 44.1khz sample rate?

My ears have suffered too much to even bother any higher than 44kHz. But I do try to go to 48kHz now and then just by mere superstition. I believe that what I cannot hear, someone else might hear. I do the opposite. Whatever I can't hear very well gets rolled off, which makes even 44kHz overkill fo...

Re: Is anyone still working at the 44.1khz sample rate?

The 44100 version has a brighter sound on hihats and cymbals. To me that's pretty clear. It's a got some sort of sizzle sound on the hihats that I don't like, like it's not processed in a natural way. The 88200 doesn't have that annoying sizzle that 44100 has. 88200 Hihats and cymbals are just a ti...

If one uses Subtractor or Thor, wouldn't they want to run at 88K or 96K to minimize aliasing as much as possible? Or is this a myth? Thor doesn't alias as badly as Subtractor, and you're generally going to want to filter out those extreme frequencies unless you going for that dentist drill sound. B...

Re: Reason 12 is coming!

These sorts of things are difficult to gauge ahead of time. If they added VSTs, maybe we wouldn't have had Rack Extensions. Or we could have Rack Extensions, but few make them as they can always just make a VST or Reaktor patch. Sure, but what revenue they might have lost by not locking their best ...
