Yes. I’ve done preproduction for songs by choosing a tempo and scale weeks ahead of time, and creating as many samples and loops that work with those parameters as I could. Once I finally start writing the song it can be very helpful to have these readymade elements to experiment with.

I like using it for one instrument, usually with round robin style samples. It is really great once you add some modulation.

I really like the idea of the current instruments being modularized.

If the Combinator 2 had a Reaktor like approach to building, allowing you to combine low level components to create customized devices, I would be very happy.

You should try to make sounds that are disturbing on an subconscious level. For example, the stabbing violin theme in the movie Psycho was inspired by the sound of a prey animal being caught by a predator. This is something we all instinctively fear.

Don’t normalize the files. Just play them back at full volume on whatever instrument you’re using. Playing a sample at low volume and then normalizing it will not phase cancel against the original sample.

Each distortion plug in can be further understood by running a sine wave through it and inspecting the harmonics added using an oscilloscope.
