Re: Producing Great Vocals
Record yourself singing at different ranges and listen back to find what sounds best to you and your musical style. You may want to try some affected variations as well. If you can, try to find a vocal style/range that's comfortable and doesn't require you to strain or push your voice too hard. Try...

Vocals sound awful. Is it the room or the processing?
So I've got a bunch of tracks that are just waiting for vocals. But every time I try to record myself singing, everything sounds awful. I can't zero-in on whether it's the horrible acoustics of my room or my complete inexperience in processing vocals. For the life of me, I can't figure out vocal pro...

My bad - messed up the quotes.
I come from a web development background so spend a lot of time on Hackernews. Maybe it's not the ideal place to talk DAW performance after all
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll save up for an i7 instead of an i5!

Re: Best Waves Plug-Ins?
Definitely get the CLA-2A compressor. It's probably one of Waves' best known plugin.
I like the H-Delay as well.
If you don't already have a de-esser, I recommend Waves' DeEsser too (FabFilter's Pro-DS is arguably better though)

Re: Is modern music awful?
There is a survivor bias when you talk about "older" music Look at the top charts from the 60s and 70s and you'll realize that the biggest hits of the day were the same crappy, cheesy pop you deride today Here's a wiki entry for the top Billboard year end singles from 1973: https://en.wikipedia.org/...

Re: Guys what is the best cpu for reason?
Your budget will increase if you take the time to continue to save. So, save and get a higher-end i7. Also, you can always add RAM later. Don’t get an i5. I've been looking at the reviews and a lot of people on HackerNews are of the view that the newer Intels aren't really as good as the AMD Ryzens...

Re: Guys what is the best cpu for reason?
I'm on a budget, so what would you recommend - a top-end i5 with 16GB RAM or a mid-range i7 with 8GB of RAM? Only one of these two combos can fit in my budget

Re: Producing Great Vocals
Thank you, this was excellent. The thing I struggle with the most is finding my "natural" voice. I tend to mimic different singers and don't know what register or key I naturally sing in. Is my singing voice the same as my speaking voice? Or should I have an affected singing voice (lots of musicians...

Anyone here familiar with Bo Burnham's work? I reckon people on this forum would love him. He's insanely clever and is extremely talented, especially with his music
I think this bit transcends comedy and enters that place where comedy and tragedy co-exist:

Have you given iZotope VocalSynth a try? I got the demo version off Splice. Seems like a very solid vocal synth so far
