Re: MORE generative RE’s/Players, not less, please!!!
I'm interested in these generative devices as well and I've recently taken my first steps in RE development so I'm trying to get some ideas for devices that I can try to build. I was considering trying to make another "click in the grid" step sequencer but it seems like it might be a waste of effort...

Re: Developer forum
If I can indeed write to a document-owned property in the motherboard from my lua drawing code then I'll give that a try. You can't do that directly. You can only update property values via gesture handling, that's why a user interaction is always required for changing a value. Right, I understand ...

Re: Developer forum
A custom display can persist a document owned string to a patch or a Reason document. An RT owned string cannot be saved to a document or a patch, it is lost. Which means you always need user interacton to "store" something. So while your realtime may calculate some stuff and returns it to the cust...

Re: Developer forum
Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding the storage of custom string data in a patch file? I've made some good progress with a little step sequencer player device I'm trying to build and it basically uses a simple "algorithm" to generate the sequencer data. Because of that, I can specif...

Re: Developer forum
Do you really need that default zero string value? You can interpret 'nil' value as that string in your display.lua code. Just to clarify, you CANNOT set a default value for an RT-owned string. I made a mistake with what I said earlier. It was passing an empty string, not nil. When I tried to check...

Re: Developer forum
Is somehow possible for the display drawing function to get called before my C++ class has been constructed? I'm passing a string back to the motherboard like this: - No, but you can set a default value for the RT String in motherboard_def.lua. As far as I can tell this is what you have done. It sh...

Re: Developer forum
Looks like the official reason studios forums (including the developer forum) have closed down so that avenue has gone. My next problem - I've got a custom display which was working fine earlier today and I can't work out what I've done to break it. I've specified 2 values to be passed through to th...

Re: Developer forum
I'm wondering if I need to calculate the information I need within the realtime C++ code and then send it back to the motherboard so I can store as a custom property which can then be read by my custom display rendering function. Am I on the right track?! I don't seem to be able to "subscribe" to t...

Re: Developer forum
Thanks for the pointer towards the other forum. It doesn't seem very active but I'll definitely have a poke around and see what I can find. I've hit my next brick wall - I can't work out how to get sequencer play position (PPQ) so I can update my RE interface (a custom display) with some sort of ind...

Re: Developer forum
How do you define "virtual" display dimensions in hdgui_2D.lua? (See https://developer.reasonstudios.com/documentation/JukeboxScriptingSpecification#_custom_display) These are coordinates in which drawing is done. Thanks so much. I'd changed my dimensions in device_2D.lua and I forgot to update the...

Re: Developer forum
This is a call for help from fellow RE devs! Just getting started and having some trouble with custom displays. I'm trying to create a simple pattern display that shows 16 steps as 30x30 pixel filled squares with a brighter colour for the "on" steps. It seems to me that the dimensions of the custom ...

Re: Developer forum
I just wanted to add my vote for a developer forum. I've just started trying to code my own RE (literally yesterday) and I'd love a dedicated place for discussion and to get help. I'm a web developer by trade so I'm a half decent coder but I haven't written any C++ for 20 years. That said, I'm pleas...

Re: So what have you bought from this May Madness Sale?
I bought Reason 11 Suite upgrade in the sale from JRRShop but I haven't bought anything in May Madness yet. I'm hovering over the button on Shape and ZVO-2 from Lectric Panda and I'm tempted by various players but I feel like there is a lot of crossover with some of them. I'm curious about Evolution...

Re: Share your story why you upgrade/buy Reason 11 as rack plugin ?
It was an easy decision for me. I bought the Reason 11 Suite upgrade from Reason 10 because although I really DON'T like the Reason sequencer, piano roll etc I think it's a very fun set of toys and a lot of fun for sound design. I use Bitwig as well and by using the VST inside Bitwig I get the best ...

Re: Semi modular Re?
I apologise if I'm being dim but doesn't stuff like the Blamsoft Polymodular system fit the bill quite well? It seems to me that this modular building-block ability is already possible within Reason but that it would be improved if more developers got involved with different types of oscillators, en...

Re: Hey MattiasHG...Do you guys plan on adding real time audio slicing to reason anytime soon? Hopefully b4 i die
Perhaps not the intention of the OP but it would be great to be able to slice without having to import to an audio track, then slice to REX, then import etc. Even the "intro" version of Ableton has the ability to load a drum loop into the simpler, turn the "sensitivity" dial and start finding transi...

Quick CVPT tip for multi-out gate/cv devices
I was trying to work out how to mute/solo multiple channels of cv/gate being generated from REs such as Korde and PSQ-1864. Had some helpful answers in this thread - https://forum.reasontalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7507567 I've just realised that if you pass the cv/gate pairs through multiple CV Pla...

gate/cv signal mixer with mute/solo
Afternoon. I picked up a whole load of new toys during May Madness (probably too many), a lot of which are tools for generating CV signals like PSQ-1684, Euclid, Elementary Logic gates, Korde, Propulsion etc. I'm really interested in making generative music and plugging all these toys together to ma...

Re: Are You Serious?!
We’ve all been there. It can be a frustrating process whatever tools you choose so my advice would be to use more than one DAW. They each have different strengths and weaknesses and inspire in different ways. The truth is that music production has never been cheaper or more accessible so take advant...

Re: Where Is Reason Headed?
I personally find it a bit confusing that people here try to compare VST and RE as if they are a like-for-like format. VST is an open standard so it can be supported by any software that cares to implement that standard. RE is a Reason-specific standard that supports the modular system that is essen...

Re: Europa VST/AU!!!!!
First off - I'm new here so hello. I can't see an issue with this. It's just a new revenue stream for the company and if that helps keep them going then that's great. It's not "competition" for Reason because nobody is using Reason purely for one or 2 instruments but rather for the whole modular eco...
