Re: Is Behringer Neutron the closest to Subtractor?

Luckily, I like challenges, so I'm cool with adapting to the instrument's character. What kind of processing did you use on drums? Analog delay though? Tops if I can create a comb filter with it, then I'd use it. But yeah, features are more important for me than sound this time, where synthesizing ...

Re: Is Behringer Neutron the closest to Subtractor?

Any of those synths are easy to program like the Subtractor. The oscillators in the Neutron are based on the Curtis CEM3340. Those were used in synths Prophet 5 Rev 3 and the SH101. The Neutron is quite flexible if you don't mind the workflow. I have many Behringer pieces in my collection and they ...

Re: Is Behringer Neutron the closest to Subtractor?

I've only ever used the input to process drums. Depending on the music style and Sonic aesthetic you're after, it may or may not work for you. I personally mainly only ever use it for bass, bypassing entirely the drive and the delay. I find the character of the neutron would be more suited for dirt...

Is Behringer Neutron the closest to Subtractor?

Behringer has these neat little, compact semi-modular analog synthesizers, which have a really good price, too. I mainly considered Neutron, because it seems closest to Reason's Subtractor. Polyphony isn't an issue, since I could always just record things separately. I'd at least make use of my Focu...

Re: Good Speaker Monitoring for Mix and Mastering or Sound designing

There are sub boosted Sony headphones, so not sure why they love cutting sub from studio oriented ones. For the same reasons that not everyone needs a subwoofer. Any bass drums can have low subs, so it's never useless to have a proper full range. There are many genres where low subs in bass drums a...

Re: Good Speaker Monitoring for Mix and Mastering or Sound designing

The Sony seems alright, but even it has a sub bass drop, although not as bad as the aforementioned. The 7506 drops off below 40 Hz, and only -3 dB at 30 Hz. That's pretty awesome for a headset at this price :puf_wink: Andrew Scheps rarely mixes any sub-bass genres, and neither do I :puf_bigsmile: T...

Re: Good Speaker Monitoring for Mix and Mastering or Sound designing

E30 II + L30 II + ATH-E70 You get a full professional, premium quality IEM system. Personally, I could EQ sub bass with 0.1 dB accuracy, landing on the exact same value after tripple-checking. And we are the least sensitive in that frequency region. I also can pan dead-accurately, as well ax mix sp...

Re: Good Speaker Monitoring for Mix and Mastering or Sound designing

Andrew Scheps even just uses Sony headphones, nothing fancy, especially when traveling, as far as I remember from an interview. Erm... I posted a video just a few replies back in this topic, where he discusses that :puf_wink: He uses a Sony MDR-7506 set as his primary monitoring, even in his own st...

The question is why would you need more then 192kHz/24bit or even 48kHz/24bit?
I had a lengthy thread about this.

What I learned

People shared their wisdom with me throughout my life, and I'm starting to understand them: - The stronger dog "breeds" (altered Hungarian saying) - Say the truth, and your head gets broken in - If you can say something clever, be silent! Because you will be laughed off - You and what army? To peopl...

Re: High Pass Filters DON'T f...ing ruin your mixes

Agree with the first part of that But when it comes to "use your ears", isn't the issue that a track might have some low-end content that you *can't* hear when you solo the track? But then if you end up with 20 tracks with the same sort of redundant low-end content, it starts to sound muddy in the ...

"The problem? Many people see the clickbait. They don't watch the video, but still "learn" from the clickbait, and will think as if HPF-ing a mix would be bad. Why didn't I add context? Thus, it rather sounds like that an HPF will magically damage the sound in all cases.
The video actually makes the counter argument to that.
The clickbait itself just says essentially, HPF is crap.
