playback trough stereo receiver and good speakers sounds very different (and not good)
So I laid down some tracks with the headphones on and mixed them so that things sounded quite good. I then figured I would listen to it through the Stereo system (Yamaha R-S500 with Paradigm mini monitor v.4 speakers). Everything seemed to fall apart ... hollow bass ... and the high tones of glocken...

Re: 2-5-1 progression and jazz ... why?
It's the root of modal music. Tonica, subdominant, dominant. But the subdominant is often played as minor relative in jazz, just for a slightly different "color". D-7, G7, C is the same as F6, G7, C. The function of the D-7 is that of a subdominant. Marco ... I think I am getting what you mean but ...

Thanks for all the feedback ... it began to seem like a dumb question that I was posing ... but now I'm glad I asked.

Re: I am seeing 3 of each drum pad in the midi piano roll
Thanks Selig ... but I'm not quite clear on your answer. I had actually banged in the drum hits using the laptop keys ... and the result was that I saw 3 keys in the piano roll representing the same drum pad hit. Are you saying that if I just scrolled the keyboard piano down a couple of octaves (mov...

I am seeing 3 of each drum pad in the midi piano roll
Anybody know why this is happening? After banging in some drum hits from Kong, I look at the piano roll in the midi track, and there are like 3 Snare Drum1, 3 Kick Drum 1, 3 [whatever's] ... on and on. This takes up precious real estate in the midi track window, and I have to scroll to get to other ...

2-5-1 progression and jazz ... why?
Is there some inherent reason why the 2-5-1 progression is strongly associated with jazz? Is because of some special characteristics of these chords? Or is it just that ...for whatever reasons ... this progression and jazz have, through some sense of musical history/tradition, have come to be associ...

Re: What files comprise a self-contained Reason project ...????
THX for your feedback ... to be clear ... what I'm trying to ask is this: In the event of my computer fatally crashing ... what are the essential files that should've been saved off to an external drive ... so that every aspect of the song can be recovered? Does the .reason file contain everything I...

What files comprise a self-contained Reason project ...????
I've searched and searched, but I could not find any reliable information on exactly what and where the components of a Reason project are stored on the computer. 1) What are the components? (I know it depends on the 'ingredients' of the Project ... midi clips, audio, VSTs, ...etc.) but I want to kn...

Re: Play guitar as a Bass
THX everyone ... I think the two best options are
1 get an actual bass
2 A completely different idea - use MIDI Guitar (it's the name of a product) and play a sampler or synth based bass with your guitar

Re: Play guitar as a Bass
Thanks again EVERYONE for your responses. It seems I am good to go with just playing the low strings on the guitar, but to get them down to "bass string" level ... I would have to pitch them down an octave after recording them. I.e., I can not expect that the bass amp (Softube) ... will be able to o...

Will Line 6 Reason Electric Bass Refill work with Reason 9.x?
I would like to get the Line 6 Reason Electric Bass Refill ... but Line 6 is no longer a Bass Amp in Reason 9.x. Reason 9.x is using Softube amps ... not Line 6.
I suspect that the Line 6 Reason Electric Bass Refill will not work with Softube in Reason 9.x.
Any opinions out there?

Re: Play guitar as a Bass
Thanks everyone for your very helpful answers ... I am wondering though ... along the lines of my previous impression ... is it actually impossible to run a guitar through the Softube Bass amp??? Does this bass amp allow only low bass frequencies ... as output from an actual bass ... as input to the...

Re: Play guitar as a Bass
Thanks for the advice ... I guess that will work (pitching it down) ... the main reason is want to to play it on guitar is that I can get the nuances ...bending and other dynamics ...as is natural when playing a guitar/bass. So pitching down is acceptable and probably 'close enough' .... I thought I...

Play guitar as a Bass
Very simple: I don't have a bass, only a guitar. I want to lay down a bass line ... but don't want to lay it down using midi (keyboard) instruments like ID8, etc. because I want to use the guitar, as it's a more natural way (for me) of making a bass line. Is there a way in Reason to play the guitar ...
