that doesn't work so simply.
i forgot about the absolute/relative toggle underneath the drop-down menu for the note snap scale.
"absolute" will auto drag a clip to the nearest beat the snap is set to.

just in case anyone else couldn't figure this out.

hold shift shift dragging a clip.
that auto-snaps the beginning of the clip to the grid.
don't know why that took me so long to figure out.

Both layers and Algoritm are marketed as great 80s style synths. Algoritm can go a lot further though.
