Re: What recently inspired you ?
Lately it's been all about indie bedroom pop singers like Clairo, Chloe, Tessa & just lots of girls lately like Maggie Rogers. A back to basics songwriting vibe has really been grabbing me lately. Sorry about your loss. You can def channel that into some beauty. But yeah... I don't think I've been i...

Re: What color theme do you use in Reason? (POLL)
Worked in Graphic Design for a few years and Animation the past decade. Was always taught inverted text, meaning Light font on dark BG is harder on the eyes. As far as any science behind that...I dunno.

Re: Imported mp3 Ref Track is Clipping??
MP3 encoding will add a dB or 2, always. I don't know but I myself master with this in mind so I will have a -1dbtp on the limiter to account for this if the track will be encoded into MP3 down the line. This, anytime the master is near 0 dB it'll clip. But its an MP3 and no one cares anyways. I st...

Imported mp3 Ref Track is Clipping??
Just when I thought I had it all figured out. I swear i've read all about clipping and watched the tutorials and I thought as long as these guys weren't in the red you were good. But I've just imported a reference track and from the looks of it, it's mega clipping right? I'm mostly worried about tha...

Re: Noob Music Theory question that's been buggin me...
One thing I really wish had been implemented in Players from the get-go was a global key track. How cool would it be to have an extra root key setting on all scale quantising Player devices called "Global" and then you just draw in pattern clips on this one lane and your song will follow it? Don't ...

Re: Cracklig Kick
Yes, the idea is to layer with other kicks. But first, I need to understand how to create these kind of clicking  Do you have any idea? In the sample you have, I am fairly sure that the clicking is artifacts from a quantizer (resampler does this stuff) You're just going to have to experi...

There are no no-no's! I agree with all the above answers to your question, so I'll just add some stuff that I've learned over the years and hopefully some of this will be useful. It's not possible to cover all the ideas completely but I'll try to point out and bold the names of these ideas if you w...

Noob Music Theory question that's been buggin me...
I've never even thought about this until Scales and Chords came out and I'll try and word it correctly even tho I'm sure to sound like a 4th grader. So, for instance if I'm using scales and chords and throw down a bunch of D Minor chords. Does this now mean that my entire song has to be in D Minor n...

Re: Vanishing and returning audio question. (quick way to heart attack)
Did you accidentally delete your Scratch (temp) folder? In this case Reason will have to recalculate the waveform displays, just wait a bit and you'll see them. (You can see the progress bar in the lower right corner). Actual audio is saved in the .reason file so you'll be ok unless your hard disk ...

Redrum Master Level moving by itself
So I just loaded up a redrum into a mix channel and I'm watching the master level knob jitter around by itself. I'm sure this is probably a noob question but is my reason haunted?
Why it do dat?
Did I stumble on some link to some hacker spy messing with his hacker spy audio levels?

Using Stock Vocals in Songs
Hey so I've only played around here n there with free vocal samples or ones bought through packs etc etc. Do people ever actually use these in production straightforward without like using it as a chop or fx. Like, if there's some sample with some chick saying "Oh yeah do it right" ... could someone...

Re: Another Audio Clipping question? YES
I still don't understand tho why my Reason 4 tracks are now all going into one bus [/color] Because back in Reason 4 there wasn't individuals mix channels, only the 6 and 14 mixers. Now you need to create a mix channel for every single track. Ah. Sounds like it'd be a pain in the ass to properly fi...

Re: Another Audio Clipping question? YES
Yeah I ended up just throwing a limiter as an insert FX on the master and so far that seems to be doing the trick. Using a limiter just to fix an unbalanced mix isn't a good approach, IMHO. Get your levels right before you limit, and your mix will end up sounding better. Yeah, I feel like I'm skipp...

Re: Another Audio Clipping question? YES
If the sound has some movement, say your snare has a high sound at ~ 1.3khz, and you've got an pad or an arp that also settles in at around ~1.3khz. Say this repeats twice in an 8-bar loop. The first time, say around bar 3 in your arp patch, due to movement (and this could be part of the way the so...
