Re: Reason 12 has arrived
Sorry if this is a non-sequitir, but it didn't seem like it warranted its own thread. How does the built-in mixer in the new Combinator actually work? I haven't found any pictures or videos with it unfolded. If I add multiple instruments to a combi, are they (finally) just automatically connected wi...

Re: SineSynth from Ekssperimental Sounds in the Shop.
Wow. I've been demoing it for the last hour and it feels like a synth I didn't even know I was waiting for. Some of these presets are incredibly tasty, fun as hell to tweak, and play very nicely with some of my favourite FX. And I love the expansion reader concept. But... I'm also having a LOT of tr...

Best in-line/channel EQ that's not resource-hungry?
Hey everyone- One thing I wish Reason (and most DAWs) could copy from Pro Tools' is having a solid stock EQ. The MClass just doesn't hold a candle to it, and I'm looking for a good alternative. I do a lot of sound design, and tend to EQ pretty heavily within combinators on single tracks. I'd love pe...

Re: Dr. Octorex - "free run" mode? Ignoring tempo/BPM?
Remember when I said I understand why Dr. Octo Rex added the blank slice? Not true, at all. I just tried it again, and the good doctor happily played what I bounced without padding it out with silence at the end, despite the fact that it doesn't divide neatly into bars. So there goes that theory. I ...

Dr. Octorex - "free run" mode? Ignoring tempo/BPM?
Hey gang- Does anyone have any ideas for getting Dr. Octorex to disregard song tempo for its looping? If I bounce a clip from the sequencer to a rex loop, the instrument "rounds up" to the next bar and adds a silent slice at the end. I understand why it does this, but there are times when I'd really...

Using MIDI to control a Mix Channel (or other devices)...?
I'm attempting to mute/unmute a device's Mix Channel using MIDI control values (sent by a Pure Data patch, in this case), and I'm hoping someone could point out my mistake, at least from the Reason end of things. I've set up MIDI channel 4 to route to a specific Mix Channel's input, using the Advanc...

Re: Are Props' instrument refills (Reason Drum Kits, Piano, Electric Bass) still worth it?
Thanks for the answers, everyone! Love this forum. I've got some experience mixing live drum kits, and really don't like having more VSTs open in Reason than necessary, so it sounds like for $89, the trio's a pretty good good substitute for when I don't want to pay for studio time/session players (i...

Are Props' instrument refills (Reason Drum Kits, Piano, Electric Bass) still worth it?
Looking at the "Trio Bundle" , each of the refills looks pretty good, but I also know it's been something like six years since they were released. Have they been surpassed, so far as REs? Also wondering, about the bass and piano samples specifically, how well they handle sustain and release... will ...

Re: How do Archive your Patches and call them up quickly?
Windows 7 restricts access to the Program Files directory by default, as a security measure. You could search for how to change permissions on the folder, though it would be simpler to just use another directory for your patches.

Re: How to generate a CV voltage from an external audio input for triggering Distributor?
Perhaps the issue is that the gate input is expecting a single pulse and what it’s gettung is a continuous stream. I feel there’s gotta be a way...need a coffee first. Yeah, I'm wondering if the pulse put out by Matrix works because it alternates between very specific voltages, and Distributor does...

Re: How to generate a CV voltage from an external audio input for triggering Distributor?
Thanks both for the reply; it's a good suggestion, but I've already tried using the gain reduction out of the MClass as a starting point, with the same weird behaviour on Distributor's part as a result. What really confuses me is that even if I feed what definitely appears to me to be a 50% duty cyc...

Re: How to generate a CV voltage from an external audio input for triggering Distributor?
No one at all?
I tried generating squared off CV pulses using one of Malstrom's envelopes and sending that as a CV to Distributor's gate input, but it still acts weird. The resulting CV looks exactly like what Matrix puts out... am I unaware of something basic about gate signals in Reason?

How to generate a CV voltage from an external audio input for triggering Distributor?
Hi gang - The short version: How could I generate a useable gate/CV signal using the input from an audio track (like, for each pluck of a guitar string)? What is it about a CV signal generated by reason's devices that lets me easily trigger Distributor through its Gate In? I've been trying to trigge...

Re: What are your go to devices?
Synths depend on mood and what I'm going for, but there are definitely some effects and utilities that continually pop up in my projects: Stock: Thor - often just for routing and modulating, especially CV RV7000 - mostly for convolution DDL-1 - even with The Echo I still constantly reach for this MC...

Re: Nostromo 2
Nostromo is tied with Proton for my favourite non-stock RE synth, and I'm really looking forward to playing with the new options... but like some others have said, also very sad to see the oscillator copy/paste functionality gone. I hope there's a way it can come back!

Re: Issues with/alternatives to BV512 EQ for multiband processing
Depending on what you're doing that would basically duplicate the entire signal causing a phasing issue since the whole signal is duplicated with no offsets since it's the same signal duplicated again by any splitters or something. I usually stick to the splineEq or mclass. Although...Keeping...

Issues with/alternatives to BV512 EQ for multiband processing
Hi all- I've thrown together a combi using a few BV512s in 16-band EQ mode to split a signal into four bands for some basic multiband processing. But today I noticed some pretty high frequencies still making it through the "low-pass" EQ, and I'm trying to figure out why, so I can work on some altern...

Re: Synchronous question - can you isolate effects to single layers/curves?
With the coloured knob at noon, its curve will have no effect on that parameter. That had been my next thought, but... with, for instance, the mod wheel's "yellow" value set to noon on all delay parameters, the yellow curve is still modulating delay slightly. And coming at it from another direction...

Synchronous question - can you isolate effects to single layers/curves?
Hi folks- I'm playing around with a demo of Synchronous, and something that's bugging me is that it seems like there's no way to select which effects are applied to each layer's curve... turn an effect on, and it's linked to all three curves no matter what, with extremely limited (and quickly contra...

EDITED: What fieldframe said. I feel like Polar will probably become stock in some future version as well, but it's too nice for me to wait. Re: First synth RE for a new upgrade from Essentials?
These are some great suggestions... ReSpire especially sounds lovely, but my thought was similar to Shoemaker's - it seems a pain to automate. Kombucha, you might be right now that the Polar demo has convinced me it's a must-buy, plus I'm eyeing Lectric Panda's sequencers hungrily (since I've never ...

Loque, Nostromo looks really interesting... also like it might require me to think differently, which could be good. Thanks for the tip. chk071, I thought I'd kind of wait for a while to see how VST implementation actually works out in Reason, though I am tempted by a VST based on Blofeld, which I h...

First synth RE for a new upgrade from Essentials?
Hi everyone! My first post after a whole lot of lurking. I'm upgrading after a few years of Essentials, and might just treat myself to a synth. I'm a neophyte tweaker looking for recommendations from fellow tweakers. I'll be using Reason for three main things - * Compositions tending toward noisy/am...
