Re: Synth vs. Rompler The Low down Pros & Cons
If the question is comparing the value of a synth against that of a rompler that has samples of synth sounds, I would prefer the synth. But I don’t think that’s a particularly useful comparison. Now if the question is whether I would be more likely to use a new synth or to use a new rompler that has...

Re: problem/possible bug with Drum Sequencer Player
So even if the bass track is nonexistent, the Drum Sequencer won’t switch patterns. Are you automatic the pattern select directly or using a Combinator rotary to do it? Also, it might be good if you could take a screenshot of the rack so maybe we could track down the issue.

Re: PLAYERS OPEN UP WITH INSTRUMENT ATTACHED?
I think it would be useful for complex stacks that route CV signals out of the stack. Players inside Combinators wouldn’t have to require a device under them, since they would usually receive their MIDI from the Combinators input. Placing the Players outside works, but then the chain can’t be saved ...

Would anyone who’s familiar with the guts of Reason know if offloading drawing to the GPU would also improve CPU performance? That would be a cool bonus for large projects.

Re: Samplerates: the higher the better, right? (Dan Worrall)
RECORDING at high sample rates doesn’t yield any audible difference as far as I know. PROCESSING at high sample rates does usually yield an audible difference. The character of synthesis, filtering, and distortion will usually vary with sample rate. This is often true of older modules that don’t hav...

Re: Hip Hop producers/beat makers: how to become prolific
Identify the 20% of your work that sucks up 80% of the time. For some people it’s chords and melody, for others it’s sound design, for others it’s mixing. Save and recall as much of that process as you can. For example, if you like to create your own drum and synth presets, spend a few hours (or day...

Re: #ReasonBeatmaking
I feel the hashtag relates to me. Even if the new device is targeted to a style of work I don’t do, perhaps I could still use it for an unintended purpose. I’m interested in anything new really. As far as beat-making goes, it really comes down to genre and culture. For example, I think most folks in...

Re: You also feeling ripped off upgrading?
OP, the way I read your post is: “I was going to buy R11 Suite, but now I’m having second thoughts. The deal sounds nice at first, but on closer inspection it seems a little hollow. Am I off?” That’s a perfectly reasonable and understandable post in my opinion. We often outsource problem-solving to ...

When I first saw the thumbnail I thought someone really was claiming ownership of all melodies, but I’m relieved that these guys are trying to demonstrate how ridiculous a lot of these lawsuits are by extending their premises to absurdity. I think a big problem is that most of the judges and juries ...

Re: Features in other DAWs [Comparison]
For what it’s worth, I thought the original post was perfectly useful the way it was initially formulated. A comparison chart that simply shows what features are present or lacking across DAWs is fair. This kind of work helps to cut through the marketing hype companies create pretending they’ve rein...

Re: no need for more synths /eq/ compressors
Yes. I don’t really need more stock devices, but I may be in the minority. I wish RS would focus solely on upgrading the architecture of Reason. (The Rack Plug-in is technically a workflow improvement, although the inability for instances to talk to each other and the lack of multiple MIDI-out kills...

Re: Midi mapping Player patterns
Another similiar workaround solution is to use Volt SL1 CV Selector. That is a beautiful device! Might have to grab that one. Other workaround is to use Matrix and route CV Curve output with correct values set for patterns. With Matrix you can map Pattern selector to buttons. This is a genius solut...

Re: Midi mapping Player patterns
I would use Aftermath Audio’s CV8X4 and Robotic Bean’s CV Select Switch. Both are free. Put your Drum Sequencer inside a Combinator. Route the CV output of the CV Select Switch to a Combinator CV input, set that input to unipolar, and use that input to control the Drum Sequencer Pattern select. Conn...

Re: What is the ONE feature you'd like to have in the future version of Reason ?
I’d be happy if duplicating devices didn’t add “COPY” every time. But seriously, a revamped Combinator is long overdue. I think Reason’s biggest strength is the CV system and more should be done to embrace that side of things. A new Combinator with user-definable macro types and an expanded mo...

Re: How often do you use library presets? (POLL)
I don’t mind using a preset if it works for the composition. I struggle against imposter syndrome, so I used to see synth presets as cheating, but I realized I didn’t feel that way about a sampled violin patch. No one cares if two composers use the same string section. So I try not to burden myself ...

Re: Music Theory question
The Amaj can be derived from the parallel key, B Minor. It would be based on the 7th degree of that scale. Chords from parallel keys can often be borrowed and used in a given progression. It’s also noteworthy that the F#sus4 could be in either B Major or B Minor because its 3rd is suspended. So in t...
